    APPLY NOW
Thank you for your interest in the United States Coast Guard! Please note that there are four ways you can get in touch with a recruiter through gocoastguard.com:

    1. Call your nearest recruiting office.
    2. Email your nearest recruiting office.
To protect your privacy, do not send Personally Identifiable Information (PII) or health-related issues or concerns through email!
    3. Chat Now with a Coast Guard chat recruiter.
    4. Submit an Application to begin the screening and application process.
Read the application guidelines below before selecting the "Continue" button to begin the screening and application process.
If you decide to correspond using email, do not send Personally Identifiable Information (PII) or any health-related issues/concerns through the email option. Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is information that can be used to identify you & may include but is not limited to name, address, phone, email address, birth date, age, etc. The email should be used for general recruiting questions only without providing Personally Identifiable Information (PII). View our privacy act statement.

A successful pre-screen is only the first stage of the qualification process. Because the job we do is highly sensitive, and jobs may involve national security, and military maritime law enforcement, the Coast Guard is a highly selective service. Many qualified applicants compete for limited positions. Due to increasingly high accession standards, fully qualified applicants are not guaranteed accession into the Coast Guard. Obtaining a position in this service is a very competitive process that considers the applicant "Whole Person" qualities and strengths, along with service-wide needs. Only the most fully qualified applicants will be offered a Coast Guard position.

Applicants must meet the following criteria and successfully pass several screening tests:

    • Be a U.S. citizen or a resident alien.
    • You must be between 17-31 (If you are 17, you'll need parental consent.) though some reserve and officer programs allow you to be older.
    • Reservists must be between 17-39.
    • Prior-service personnel should contact their local recruiter for specific criteria.
    • High school diploma. GEDs are accepted in very rare circumstances.
    • Have no more than two dependents (spouse, children, or someone dependent upon you for support).
    • Pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test.
    • Be medically cleared by the local Military Entrance Processing Station.
    • Undergo a credit check, security clearance check, and a criminal record review. (2nd and 3rd-degree misdemeanors and or felony convictions are disqualifying.)
During this screening process, information may reveal an applicant to be unsuitable for Coast Guard service due to excessive debt, medical disqualifications, criminal history, or other reasons.

As the first step in the screening process, confirm that you have read and understand the application guidance above. Click the CONTINUE button and complete the application. You will receive an email with recruiter contact information or be notified of your screening status. If you have not received an email or a phone call within 3 days, contact your nearest recruiter through the Find A Recruiter function. The United States Coast Guard admires your desire to serve our nation and wishes you well as you compete for the privilege of serving in the United States Coast Guard.

As far as? It's still a armed uniform service, and you still get a DD214, and your RE code still matters.

RE code should be RE 1. However, Army or any another branch will not take any veterans with VA disability.
