It probably for the same reason I know...hahaha. It’s a good thing I have all my hair to cover up the multitude of scars on the top of my head. And the older I get the more unforgiving my knees become. Stay safe!

Current setup. Its just some shelving on the sides with tie down straps. Benefits are that its super simple and I still have the full camper shell height for headroom.

Disadvantages are that sleeping space is limited for two people between the wheel wells. Also storage is minimal and every night I have to bring stuff to the front seat. Its only a couple bins and bags but I'm going to get rid of this setup and opt for a platform.

Still going with the one big pocket and the dunnage racks. This is sitting really well now. I cut out a 1" hole to go over the T50 bolt which sticks up a bit due to the bed stiffeners. I cut about 20 pieces of 1/2" ply I had laying around to 3" by 1" and screwed them to the bottom of the common boards (.75"x5.5"x60). This creates little runners that keep them in the track they are on in the bed. I then screwed some more of the 3" pieces to the top to make a border around the dunnage racks so they can't move either. I also took the bed mat out of the equation. So overall I gained about 1" under the rack and shaved some weight down. Its perfect now, I can still fit my camp chairs on either side and big stuff in the middle.

I also picked up some 1" fixed casters from home depot for $1.25 each and test fitted it with an under bed storage bin and it fits with the casters recessed in the bed channels. (Another reason for removing the bed mat)

Very happy with the stability now, I may do a do-over on the top ply and either do a 3 piece 60x30 or a 4 piece 30x30 to give it more uniformity and more options if I want to remove part of it.

Simple is always good! What’s that bed Mat you have? Looks kind of like a tatami mattress but a bit more compact.

I would check to see if jet sled makes a sled that would fit there. I use two as my drawers under a platform and it works great, Bonus.... you can empty it for a sled for firewood.

I've been picking away at this for the last week or so. It's been a long time in the planning and I knew roughly what I wanted to do. It's nice to start to see it come together, and for the most part it's turned out better than expected. We spent a few years camping out of the back of a 4Runner and decided to go to something with a little more head room.

    IMG_2630.jpg

Went with a 5 foot slide set back the extra foot to leave a space at the front for easier access. There is also cutouts to get into the drawer from the inside.

    IMG_2631.jpg

Wanted easily removable panels so that we could sit up inside, it also fits inside a groove in the slide to act as a large table and another panel that doubles as a small table inside.

    IMG_2635.jpg

The slide can still be closed with the panel in place, and the final panel can be stored in the end.

    IMG_2633.jpg

Jackery has a fixed home with an edge around it to protect any cables that are plugged in from stuff being moved around.

    IMG_2638.jpg

Single sided swing out I had built that still allows one door to be opened without swing the spare ,it does block a small portion of the brake light but the photo makes it look worse then it is, and I have the @MESO total tail kit installed so the turn signal is relocated and very visable.

    IMG_2639.jpg

    Thoughts, comments, improvements?

I have small magnets that I will be using to keep the panels in place and I am having cushions made to fit the 3 main sections.

Dont even own a taco but love this thread, great seeing everyones ideas and sharing pictures.
I “stole” this idea, but think it would be great for some of you guys/gals to gain a lot of space. In my case, i gained about 70% real estate.
This would be very useful to the short bed crowd.

    Is it two caps?

If slide outs are your thing check out Brian at Offgrid Backcountry Adventures. He built a slide-out that takes in the tailgate to turn five feet into seven +/- for sleeping

Was using a simple setup with 2x8s, plywood, a cooler, and storage totes from walmart. Decided to up my camping setup to accommodate a fridge and added a waterport. Not pictured is a second battery in the truck bed between the cab and passenger side wheel well. Plus an air compressor in the same spot on the other side of the truck bed that has an air line coming out of the truck bed leading to the little area behind the gas pump cover
