I finally heard something from Icon!

...it was an email asking for a photo of the exposed threads.
Y’all get to see them too.

I’m curious what they’d say. Hopefully they take care of you. I’d read somewhere (in think in the thread linked above) that they said having over an inch of exposed threads would cause the top hat to be overstressed which would lead to the failure. You’re working their “safe” zone but I’ll see if i can find the quote either way.

That seals the deal for me. I’m selling my icons.

My replacement parts showed up yesterday, so I installed them today.
Broken one was a pain to remove given how they poke through the top of the tower, but it relented. Replacement was straightforward after that.

Here’s the broken one before removal.

And you can see the hat and bolt both broke.

    And old vs new.

Also, it’s worth noting that Icon reached out to me again. They apologized for the delay and proposed a way to make it right. I’ll update if that happens.

Big thanks to @Texoma and @hoarder23 for answering my panic texts when I discovered the problem.

I wonder why/how they pick and choose who to help. It stings a little that I had to pay for the same exact problem not that long ago even though I had seen them take care of people prior to me and now after me.

This happened to me with the old design, so I bought their new designed top hat and it broke again.

Parts arrived late last week, was able to install this weekend and get a better photo of the damage.

@Naveronski I'm sure I’ll find out once I get a chance to call this week, but how much can I expect to pay for new top hats, is it still around $200?

    Oof

    Is Icon even present here?

Wonder what they have to say in regards to new replacements still failing, and being picky with who they help

Yes, two should be around that price.

I'd recommend perusing it as a warranty claim before purchasing them outright.

Jeez. That’s super annoying man. Glad they’re taking care of you still. I ended up keeping my icons as spares but switched to Fox a while back. I’ll have to keep an eye on the icons of I ever swap them back in.

Yeah, I’m glad they’re covering it… but I’d really prefer that they were more robust.

Just changing from aluminum to steel for that one part would solve all the issues. Too bad.
