My mid 90's BMW 3 series has the same type of filter, element. But it's on the top.

I wouldn't!, don't mind me saying this but when you trust your dealer to change your oil it's a good chance they will overtorque the filter housing or not enough...or they may not even change your oil filter!...on this kind of work they make no money so they allow some kid to work on your pricey vehicle...so I would learn to do it myself...it's easy...

Damn, that sucks man. I read a while ago on TW that someone had the same issue. Where is it weeping from? You cant re-use the original plastic one?

I bought the aluminum housing, but i am keeping it as a spare for now, just in case.

I would not be surprised if some of the aluminum housings on the market are crappy knockoffs

Hm. My plastic one has been good so far.:fingerscrossed:

The only thing thats a bit annoying is the filter wrench gets a bit stuck when i tighten down the housing. Takes a couple minutes to get it unstuck, other than that all good here.

So yours all of a sudden started leaking?

Except the old 4.0L's powerband was a little bit more useful, regardless of HP...

I drove a 4.0 auto and honestly this 3.5 engine feels quicker to me. 4.0 was out of breath at 5k.

The plastic cap is .02 - .03" larger diameter in the o-ring groove. Since the aluminum cap is smaller, sometimes they seep, sometimes they don't. I machine all my billet caps so this sloppy fit is never a problem, nice and snug.

Where I live it isn't exactly about quickness, more of "pulling" power. I drive up a steep mountain and I can tell you the 4.0 was much happier going up it whereas the 3.5 wants to rev and scream. Yea the 4.0 ran outta steam quicker, but rarely did I need to push it that far. That said the 3.5 is still a good engine, alot more efficient than my old truck.

More "pulling" power? Oh stop it.

Maybe the high rear end gear ratio in AT is not in favor of this engine. My truck pulls just fine with 4.30 gears.
