The 6.0 and 6.4 were actually still International/Navistar engines. The 6.0 was a VT365 and the 6.4 was the MaxxForce 7.

Were they? So I guess that means that Ford decided to build their own diesel because Int/Navi's were too unreliable

I want to drive the 6.2 with the 10 speed (requires an F350) to see how that combo does. If I were to go back to a gas, I'd go 7.3 all day long. The 6.2 is rock solid but it seems like the 7.3 is getting similar fuel economy but with a lot more low end power.
On winter blend and commuting in and out of the city, I'm still over 17 MPG. In the summer, I can break 20 unloaded on a highway run and that's with the bigger tire package, crew cab, 4wd. I was getting 10-12 MPG towing the trailer where the 6.2 was getting 7-9 so a little better, nothing to write home about. The 6.7 is obviously a lot more comfortable towing though, set the cruise and go. I was getting 12-14 MPG with the old 6.2, best I could get was 16ish with ideal conditions.
All that being said, you don't buy a diesel for the financial gain, you get it because if you're towing on heavy on the highway all the time, it will pull like a freight train.
The older gas 250's weren't fantastic, thinking the 5.4. It was a complete dog. The 6.2 has been a solid engine for a long time, just not overly fuel efficient. The V10 they had for a while is an absolute beast but a gas hog.

And, just to keep you on your toes, it'd occasionally sneeze a spark plug
But, if you were towing at all it was head and shoulders over that 5.4; that motor was useless in anything heavier than an F150

The only gas 7.3 that I drove was running on 7 cylinders.. and mounted in a large motor home. I want to drive a 7.3 F250 or F350 just to see what all the hype is about.

The 5.4 is a nightmare that we are still dealing with. Usually we have at least 1 a month that we need to replace. That's always an awesome conversation with the customer. "Alright, so we found your check engine light is related to the variable timing solenoids. We can replace them, but at the same time while we're in there, we usually recommend replacing the timing chains, tensioners, and guides. Also once we do all of this, you may still end up with catastrophic bottom end failure due to a lack in oil pressure that won't present itself until you drive the truck for about an hour, and by that time, it is too late- AND we have no way of knowing if your engine has already suffered damage until after we do the repairs... So, you're looking at about $2,600 for the VCT, timing chains, and all with labor, plus you may be looking at another $3,500 for a junkyard engine to be installed if yours decides to grenade itself."

The V10's are notorious for spark plug ejections, breaking off spark plugs in the head, and the exhaust manifold studs loosening up constantly or just simply snapping off in the head! I wouldn't wish a Triton V10 on my worst enemy.

I get great mileage with my 7.3. I'm planning on having that as my adverse weather daily/tow pig. I also want to build a pair of bed bars to mount my RTT on, Tacoma-style  I want the top of the tent level with the roofline for optimal aerodynamics lol.

We have a 350 at work with the 5.4. It's a pig and feels like I'm torturing it just to get up hills with an empty 14' landscaping trailer.

Throw a dump body on the back of one and even when it's empty calling the skinny pedal the 'accelerator' is no longer an accurate term.

When I was down south, we had some nasty clay sites that could get an inexperienced operator into trouble in a hurry. The more you wiggled on the stuff, the more you sank. If you weren't paying attention, you'd bury the tracks in no time and just make it worse trying to dig yourself out at that point.

Good point. I still think they probably did a bad job inspecting the site and operator error.

IDK. You can't even see where that guy was working. It looks like what Mike said. It just went in and sank.

This. Mill rate is only half the equation. It is expensive for towns/cities to complete a town wide assessment of property values so they only do it every so often. Over time new properties added to the municipal tax roll end up paying more than their fair share as they are assessed at current market value and other properties may not have been reassessed for a number of years. So each municipality tweaks the mill rate to make sure they collect enough taxes to run their community. Often a municipality will reassess the value of property in their town then adjust the mill rate down so the taxes are roughly the same as before the reassessment but the reassessment helps to put everyone on equal footing so everyone is paying their "fair share" of taxes.

So looking at just the mill rate may not reflect how much is paid in taxes. If similar properties are assessed differently in different towns then the mill rate can make it so the amount of taxes paid is the same. If Town A has not done a reassessment in awhile then a property that is really worth $100,000 may only be assessed at $50,000. If the same house in Town B is assessed at $100,000 instead of $50,000 and Town A has a mill rate at twice that of Town B then the two owners will still be paying the same amount of taxes, even though it looks like it is much more expensive to live in Town A then Town B.
