I also drop my spare and ratchet it into the bed everytime I wheel.

I have a swing away, so it is as much for the 5 tire rotation as the aesthetics. Gonna modify the spare tire lift so I can hide my Pax gas cans down there...

I did this afterward once to clean mud out of everything. I really should make it standard post-trip maintenance.

Makes it a lot easier to swap a tire out on the trail if you need to

As for your 4Runner, what size tires are you on currently? Wife is looking at 285/70r17 for her 4Runner. She's lifted 2.7". She's worried about rubbing and being in Cali until March she's kinda on her own if it's a major rubbing issue. Any advice?

Is this actually a problem? All the new vehicles are chains, not cables.

news to me if it’s actually a thing

I'm on 285/70/17's and 2.4" lift. Caster is at 3.9°. I only rub the fender liner while backing up and turning. This can be fixed by heating the fender liner with a heat gun and pushing it tighter to the firewall with a tool. I also have Rokblokz mud-flaps and a BMC, but I hear of people getting away without the BMC if they can get the caster higher.

Also, the wheel offset will affect this. I'm at -6 and rub on the outside if the tread. A 0 offset or positive offset should help, but then you need to watch out for rubbing on the UCA or coilovers.

I can't recall if it ever completely froze on me, but I remember struggling with the spare on my previous 4runner. This was after years of never moving it. I think lowering and raising the spare every few months is probably enough to prevent it.

Not too long ago a coworker had a flat at work. We couldn't get the spare mechanism to budge at all. It had never been used until that point. This on an early 2000's minivan.

When I fluid filmed my taco I dropped the spare and made sure to get the mechanism and chain along with the rim. That said I am also a fan of busting out the factory jack and lowering the spare a few times a year just to make sure everything is in working order.

Looks like a hybrid terrain, very similar to Duratracs. That makes sense as Kenda is owned by Good Year. I have read good reviews of their tires. That's dirt cheap for a set of tires that size, so not a big loss if you don't like them.

Are you planning on running 2 sets on the Tundra? Or the same set year-round?

Also, are you still loving it? It looks sweet!

This go round I'm trying to keep everything very close to stock. Every time I modify a vehicle I run into niggling little issues that annoy me. A little rub here, a little vibration here a little rattle there. If I go big tires I have to lose mud flaps, and I'll have to trim skid plate and/or get bumper spacers plus heat gun. It is a tad bigger and a tad narrower and that's exactly what I would like. That being said tundras on big tires are pretty damn cool :DScreenshot_20210124-200750.jpg

They're only a centimeter narrower, and actually a pinch taller than the stock size. No worse than guys running 255's on Tacos and 4Runners that came with 265's.

I plan to run dedicated winters again. Been looking around for some tundra wheels in good shape for the winter set. Yeah they're pretty affordable and I'll have no issue selling the tires that came on it to put down some cash towards the kendas. Yes I am definitely still loving it. going to try to keep this one for longer than a year for once :anonymous:

Haha! Cool! Getting something right away and getting a few bucks for the take-offs sounds like a good plan.

Ya know, 35's probably fit a Tundra without much work.
