There are a few of us on here with first Gen Tundras. I’ve seen y’all around!

Post up your builds, projects, trip reports, camping set up, what you tow, whatever you want First Gen Tundra related!

I just picked up an 06 DC. We travel looooong distances in our 99 4Runner and decided we needed more space for when my wife’s family come here from the island so this Tundra will be a dedicated road tripper that not only had to seat five, but also Sleep Five! Working on a bed layout design and playing with different ideas now.

I know a couple of you have a Vagabond Off Road shell. If they didn’t cost twice as much as my truck and take over a year to get they’d be the route we would go but got no we shall build something less expensive ha.

Post whatever y’all any If you even want to!

Here’s the 06 DC I just picked up:

@BuzzardsGottaEat Nice Tundra. I have an 02. I'm really curious how you are going to sleep 5 people in that truck. Being in South Dakota, I would make sure you protect the frame from the salt or it will eat it alive. I spray mine with Fluid Film every year.

Here is my truck. I've done a lot of things to it over the years.

3 in the bed, 2 on the roof or in a ground tent at this point is the plan.

Will post a build thread when it’s actually spring and we’re actually building ha.

We keep it as simple and efficient as possible.

i just inherited grandpas old tundra, its pretty nice. Hes getting better at all the newfangled tech of his tacoma, but said it felt really nice to turn the key.
I just signed up to a tundra forum, but plan on tightening up the suspension with bushings and whatnot, i have some tacoma struts, shocks, and leafs i might try. Then it will become more of an adventure rig, since my titan pulls way better fuel economy.

hung brakes could have affected low 16 mpgs?

what you taco boys know about gettin’ ahold of some droop?

need some fatter bumpstops. And longer swaybar mounts.

Love my '05. 2WD SR5 extended cab set up for towing. Purchased it from the dealership owner (personal friend and his personal vehicle) with 30k miles. Only mods I did were upgraded speakers (it had the amp) and a Magnaflow exhaust. Krowned regularly and still no rust. Son drives it now since I picked up the Tacoma 2 years ago. Used it for a few days last month and realized how much I missed it. Effortless power, tight as a drum and sounds awesome with the exhaust. Hard to keep my foot out of it. lol

    Cheers.

Considering purchasing this 02 2wd Tundra can someone educate me on the lift on this truck is it a factory or aftermarket or has it just been leveled? The tires are 285/75/R16. That looks to be a completely stock leaf pack in the back and standard Bilstiens all around, front coils may have been set on the upper ring to level it. Looks like a low mileage truck that didn't see a hard life. Pretty clean underneath.

Yes agree with above, looks like bilstein 5100s all the way around. Stock leaf pack. The 5100s are one of the most common lift choices on these tundras, if not on all vehicles haha.

If you can be patient you can find one for a fair price in good condition. People are nuts for charging 18k for an 18 year old vehicle but then again people are nuts and paying so…

You do you, but what I would do if I were you us keep the Tacoma as long as I could all the while saving and shopping for a first Gen tundra that is exactly what I was looking for as far as 05-06, DC, good condition, etc. and buy it the minute I found it. Could take a couple months or a couple years though haha I looked for a long time and have been looking for a long time for another. They’re rare in not-rusted-out condition. GL!

Thanks. That's good advice. I was thinking about selling the taco now that prices are high, but at the same time I don't want to be without a truck and rushed to find another one. How are you liking your tundra?

How am I liking my Tundra you ask.

I daydream of buying every low mile zero rust 05-06 DC I can find and rotating them out for the next 50-60+ years hahaha.

I like it. Only downside is the turn radius. Worse than the ‘16-‘17 models I’ve driven.

Oh and the LBJ design (on many Toyota 4x4s). Mileage sucks, but it’s an old V8.

Perfect size cab and bed. If they had a DC with an 8’ bed I’d buy one but they don’t.

Not mine, but what a beauty. And somewhat or a rarity here in the rust belt.
