Hard wiring a arb portable?

    I am in need of a air compressor. I am not sure if I want on board or portable. Does anyone know if the portable arb package can be mounted on board if I decide to go that route?
    Other option is to buy a cheap viair to hold me over for a while then put it in the wife’s Prius when I decide on one for my truck

    I'm fairly certain the only complications you'd run into are modifying the portable's wiring and finding a spot to mount the small air tank included in the portable's case. Everything else should be identical to the hard-mounted version.

    I’m looking at the single that doesn’t come with tank, so it would just be the wiring

    I would assume that to be the case, yes. I don't even have my ARB compressor in hand yet, so take my input with a grain of salt.

    Snug top Rebel, Thule tracks, ditch tracks, Bagged rear suspension, F/R anytime camera, intermittent wiper switch...
    It’s 2 wires for the electrical. But does it have a way to mount it or would you need to cobble that together. Hard wired/mounted is often used for lockers or other uses besides just air fills which require permanent connections. See if it has feet that are drilled or if you’ll need to strap it in with plumbers tape or band clamps.

    So the 'portable' ARB I am pretty sure is just a single
    $323 ARB CKMA12 On-Board Air Compressor High Performance 12 Volt for Air Locker Differentials and Tire Inflation
    ARB CKMA12 packaged into a pretty container. You can just remove the compressor and do what ever you want with it. Just check what actual compressor is included in the portable unit.

    ARB sells the wiring package for the compressor, so you can buy it separate. With the switch and all.


    I just replaced one of the CKMA12's on my
    $592 CKMTA12 '12V' On-Board Twin High Performance Air Compressor, Ideal for Air Lockers Locking Differentials, Tire Inflator, Air Horn, Air Tools and Pneumatic Tools.
    CKMTA12 setup, one of the compressors had a common failure of the bold holding the piston in snapping. Of course it is out of warranty. Easy fix though.

    I simply bought a CKMA12 and replaced the failed one.



    Now I have a spare to setup as a portable unit for taking in the wife's CRV on long trips.
