For what it's worth I got mine (https://www.oempartsource.com/oem-parts/toyota-tailgate-lock-remote-super-long-wheelbase-pk3b635jl0) from OEM Part Source. After shopping around, their shipping cost was the cheapest for me

The '20 + bed lights have a harness behind the taillights so there is no conflict with the tailgate lock kit.

PK3B6-35JL0 says fits "2019-21 Tacoma Double Cab Longbed". It's a relatively easy install. The worst part was running the wires to the front and through the floor which really wasn't that hard to do. There are metal zip ties for the area that runs past the exhaust. Everything is included, easy plug and play.

Great, will order it up. Appreciate the confirmation

I saw the video on youtube. All of it seems simple, ONLY part that confused me is where you have to bolt the actuator part.

Once you take the tailgate apart and see the mount for yourself, positioning the actuator to match it to the picture in the instructions it will all make sense.

Download a copy of these and read though it as you watch the video. Even though its labeled for a shortbed the instructions are the same for a longbed, you just have more zip ties in the kit and a longer cable harness from the tailgate to the cab.

I installed KTJO's kit but my camera has never been pointed right since I installed it. Do you think it would be feasible to use the existing wiring with the Toyota actuator, to avoid re-pulling the harness?

just picked up the part today. Tomorrow is install day. Very excited to not have to manually lock my tailgate.

No idea how KTJO's kit is wired and if the actuator plugs are the same.

The harness is 2 wires. The OEM version has fuses and OEM connectors and gaskets and a billion zip ties but it's still just + and - which when pulsed does the lock/unlock. I can't imagine that the ktjo or pop-n-lock is fundamentally different, the lock pulse comes from the vehicle.

Assuming you splice in with something weatherproof (solderless butt connectors perhaps) you should be fine if you get polarity right (test first?)

I'm going to give it a shot. I will solder/heatshrink.

Does the Toyota bracket use the same mounts as the camera? That is the issue I have, I think KTJO's bracket is wonky and I was not able to point the camera straight however many times I reinstalled it and tried to make it "flat."

I remember looking through my phone for some good photos earlier, will scroll again and post if I have. The installation instructions don't give 100% clarity on the actuator in my opinion, that's one area where one or two extra photos could help.

I don't remember touching the camera at all, but it's been a while. It's certainly 100% functional as before (see also the license plate light delete in reverse thread for more on backup cameras at night :)

ETA: Yeah, I looked, I don't have any photos of the inside of the tailgate, sorry.

Have had mine on for awhile now and working great. I decided to run the harness along with Matt Gecko's bed lighting kit to save me time one shot. No issues so far and haven't had any problems. Like the rest of us, Toyota should make this standard on the Tacoma.

Glad I found this thread. We just got a 2021 TRD Sport double cab short bed and the whole short vs long version of the kit had me confused. Short it is. Thanks all

Hey thanks for this thread! I picked up the part for my 2017 SR5 DCSB and installed it this evening. It worked perfectly. The only odd part was as mentioned elsewhere in this thread: the body harness is on the driver side not the passenger side on SR/SR5 models so I had to make my own was for zip tie attachments. I'll check on it after a few hundred miles and see how things are hanging in there. Overall very happy about this being a factory part and relatively simple to install. Also I found this video incredibly helpful:

(just ignore the horrible music - the rest is great)

I just installed mine today. I was dreading taking the front passenger moulding out without breaking it. Turns out the worst part is putting the wires back in the bezels at the tailgate. About 2 1/2 hours taking my time and double checking my work. Also, when putting the actuator in the tailgate the handle slightly moves so its a pain getting the screw in the hole.

Awesome. I am with you those two plastic protectors by the tailgate were not fun. I also found my wife could get her hands under the carpet to feed the harness through much easier than I could.
