Took my truck into the dealership today for service and said they couldn't replicate the problem so they wont perform the TSB. What should i do?

Flash it yourself or meet up with someone locally to do it for you.

For ATs, about 10min. For MTs, about half of that.

@CementTacos --- Last Friday, I brought my truck for 5k service and asked if they can perform the latest TSB. They told me that they can't replicate the problem too. But they also said the truck is up-to-date. I was skeptical so I bought a bluetooth obd and downloaded OBD Fusion app and verified that my truck did came out from factory with the latest software update. This might be the case with your truck too as we both have yr 2020 and lucky enough to have the update out of the factory. For me, I believe it's worth the small investment to buy the OBD bluetooth and app or like others recommended, borrow OBD scanner from auto parts establishment to get the vehicle info and verify before going further. Hope this helps.

What a crock. At typical shop rates, it should be $45 or so.

For free or a sixer, you could hit up a local.

Yes. Later 2020 builds came with 04B81. I think it was around May or June from posts here.

These dealers should all be proactive and do it almost automatic . I think they should of course ask each owner but in the long run it will keep customers coming back. If someone brought there truck in for service and they checked for the latest software and it wasn’t there. If the flash was offered at that point
the dealers would get major brownie points . It’s not like Toyota doesn’t pay them for the work. The dealers that resist are a bunch of dummies and only think short term.

My 2020 with 8/20 build date was current from the factory. I confirmed with my obd scan tool.

Yes. August is pretty much the very end of the MY run.

In about a year or so, check the nhtsa site. This current TSB seems to hit all the marks that Toyota might care about, but you never know. They might finally deliver the lacking low end torque.

Honestly paying $75 to unlock another ECU isn’t bad, I’m not trying to get myself banned from vF Tuner lol...

However we did just save each other $390 for the tune packs! Thumbs up!

    Yes.

You can also go by a local parts place and get them to run a scan to tell you the ECU Calibration ID. Nothing hard or secret about it.

However, you can check against this: current ID 04B80 (automatic) and new update ID is 04B81. For manual: Not applicable

Reference T-SB-0092-20, thus the title of this thread.

I loaded Techstream on my laptop, plugged in a cable, and read the Cal ID through that method.

    This one
from Scamazon will also work, among many other products.

I went to dealer on Tuesday for my 15k free service and told them the truck hunted for gears on freeway and had throttle hesitation. With a cheesy smile the Guy asked if I’d seen those issues online—I ignored it and said they were minor issues I’d experienced and heard from customer service that there was a software update or something. He said it might take a while (service time went from about 45 min or so to 2.5 hours). He warned me that “there is no going back to old software” and that I might not get as good gas mileage and may not like how it drives with the new software. Anyway, it drives great. It’s not a night and day difference for me but I’ve only driven about 50 miles since then. Oh and I have a 2019 model made in April or May I think it was.

This is why I am on the fence regarding the flash. I don't HATE the stock tune and understand its calibrated for maximum efficiency. Yes, there are some predictable annoyances but I'm not sure I want to take a half-step backwards in MPG to get more pop from the engine.

    A few.
I was fairly content with my 2019 after the first 20k miles and was unsure if I wanted to mess with it. But I had it done and Im glad I did. I did loose a little mpgs but its 1 mpg loss at worst.

I have had it for a few weeks, and I can say no regrets here. In fact, I have finally been able to jump in the truck and drive our hilly neighborhood without thinking about the truck’s shifting. Even if the trans does some excess shifting occasionally, throttle response and thrust are more linear and it doesn’t bother at all.
Around town MPG may be slightly less? On several hour long 75 mph freeway trips mileage was the same as before (21 MPG or so).

I got the latest update and it was better.
It seemed to be the best for the first 35 miles then it went to sleep again for the most part.
I recently upgraded to OVTune and it's a whole different truck. Yes it was expensive but now I really enjoy driving my truck. Oh and I'm getting 21.4 Hwy.

I too have a 2019 that hunted for gears on hills and on acceleration from stop signs. I had the new TSB done at my dealership and can say that it is definitely NOT a step backwards. Truck now drives like it should have when new. MPG is not noticeably different but the truck is now fun to drive. Freeway and hilly terrain driving is soooo much improved. I highly recommend the new flash and it's free in warranty.
