Snow was not a problem for my softopper. But it was a huge problem for my useless prerunner

yeah probably looking to sell this truck and get a 4wd after this trip. it was a battle just getting out of the driveway with chains on. 4wds were cruising around like nothing happened.

I cant be the first to come up with this, but have yet to see it on this forum, so here' goes.

I made these little clamp on mounts for lightweight stuff (the shovel pictured is all aluminum and insanely light). Cut a couple pieces of PVC LENGTHWISE, drilled a hole and countersunk the inside to accept the screw head. Mounted the quick fist, and snapped onto the softopper frame. Frame won't fold while installed but they just pop off with some force.

That's a really cool idea! What size is the PVC? Any pictures of the screw head side?

It's 3/4" schedule 40 pipe. I also used it as the frame for my sleeping platform with 1" pipe used in the same fashion to secure the wood top to the PVC base. Just snaps on.

Awesome, thanks. I thought it was actual black PVC or ABS pipe.

That would have been nice, but I just used PVC I happened to already have. Quick coat of flat black and bobs your uncle.

Not sure if anyone has done this yet, couldn’t find any posts about it, but I swapped out those plastic clips for some aluminum G hooks after one of the originals broke from getting brittle in the sun. Here’s what I picked up for anyone interested: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07W812M8B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_8SNJAZZHSV71FDQP43ME

I was surprised how seemingly rare 20mm (this link they’re called “small”) g hooks were to find, most places had 25mm in stock, but not these. Shipping was slow, they came from China. If anyone has done this, and has a better source, drop a link!

This is a good idea. Mine are almost white from the sun and a couple have cracked.

Thanks! Mine were completely white after one year (California sun), two years in and only one was left in tact, and it was time to figure out a solve without ending up with the same known problem. Took a couple weeks of digging to find the right size hooks, which I was inspired to find after a climbing harness rig that I found has the exact same size webbing. It seems like every brand is custom making their hooks, so finding them loose like this is nearly impossible. Alibaba has manufacturers available, but I couldn't find any that would sell less that 500 at a time, maybe this is a time to get a group buy in????

shoot i can't find my post. i'll try to find the extra one i have and take a picture tomorrow... i bought them in the store. no sewing needed. they have a small gap in the middle you just work them in. had to cut off the old ones from softopper.
