My OE battery lasted 6 years. With only 38,000 miles on my 2013 it sits in the garage for up to a week sometimes. I know some don't think Optimas are built as well as they use to be but I went with the Optima yellow top. Been 2 years and It turns over like a top even after sitting for days. Their expensive but I really like this battery and it gives me the piece of mind to know it's going to crank whether I'm up in the hills or around town. To me it wasn't about price since my truck was paid for before the OE battery died but I can understand their not for everyone. I looked into Interstates also but if you look at enough reviews you find bad reviews on pretty much all of them. But cheaper choices that I would recommend would be Interstate from Costco or Duracell from Sam's.

Coming soon: Compact powered sub install Future mods planned: bigger tires (265/75/16) BILLSTIEN 5100 lift
I have had similar trouble with batteries in that diesel Jeep I used to have. The oem Optima red top died when the thing was 3 years old. Optima is Jonson Controls.
Then I got an Auto Craft gold from advance. It lasted just over 3 year in to the prorated warranty. They replaced it. Then replaced it 2x in two weeks because in 15° winter it couldn't run the starter and glow plugs to fire the engine. Then refunded me for it.
Then Got a Sears DieHard platinum AGM , that lasted over six years. I would recommend that but Sears stores are closed in many places.
The last time I replaced a battery I got a Duracell from Batteries plus. The Duracell is made by East penn. That held up for me too.

I just watched a Project Farm video about batteries and he liked the Walmart Everstart Max and Costco Interstate, both made by Jonson Controls but didn't recommend the AutoZone and Advanced batteries that Jonson also made.

The sears platinum AGM used to be made by Oddosey and the 2X agm battery batteries plus sells are said to be good. Id buy one of those if I could get an AGM battery or a Duracell if I was going with a lead acid flooded battery.
IDK but I don't trust Johnson Controls consistentcy of quality.

I have had two different news cars with low battery life. I think the battery companies ship a fleet spec. battery to fill their POs as cheaply as possible.

From a former battery sales rep, I can say this is the worst post I have ever read.

    This is actually correct:

Clarios: Continental, Optima, Heliar, LTH, Delkor, VARTA, Diehard, AC Delco, Autocraft, Duralast, NAPA-brand, Toyota, and BMW.

    East Penn
    : Deka, Duracell, Super Start

    Exide
    : Everstart, Interstate, Bosch

Clarios purchased Johnson Controls' battery business in 2019.

Very happy with my Odyssey AGM 24f, truck starts like never before. I’ll be leaving the truck sitting for four months starting in a few weeks. In PNW, outside, I’ll be installing a maintainer with a quick connect for that duration to protect the battery.

If I was a battery salesman, I’d want to sell you the biggest and baddest battery you could afford.

And if I was a real good salesman, I’d have you convinced that you would die without it.

I get one at Costco and you can take it in before 3 years and swap it out if you're nervous.

My original battery was replaced under warranty when my truck was new as the top was leaking acid really bad and leaving corrosion on the terminals. It was replaced with a Toyota Truestart 84 month warranty battery that's held up great with a ctek 3300 charger, but'll be do for a replacement before too much longer. My choice would be AGM, either odyssey or Northstar 24F. I don't need anything bigger and I don't want the hassle of upgrading my trucks battery mount and charging system to fully charge a bigger battery.

I've purchased several from Costco for an older car that's rarely driven. They don't seem to last much longer than a year for me in the AZ heat even when kept on a charger. I always exchange them every year before the warranty's out. :anonymous:

Nope, that would be Ctek in first position. The factory maintainers for Ferrari, Porsche, and a few other exotics are rebranded Ctek. Check the reviews on Amazon, several reviews about the old grey Noco chargers burning up while charging. Looks like they changed to a black case now and raised the price.

    Buy this one.

I got 4 CTEK battery tenders, one on the tractor, ATV, sports car and the last for the Tacoma if I know it’s going to sit for a few days or more.

As for battery tenders, I would much prefer to have the unit sitting in my garage and run a low voltage cord out to the truck than have a 120V plug ran outside and installing a tender unit under the hood.

I like the eastpenn battery. Local to me and I support this  for an agm in the wife’s jk since 2017. Held up so far and it only gets about 4K miles on it per year. Anymore and I’d have to fix it more often ;-) I do put a tender on it once a month or so jus to keep it topped off. Taco still had the factory Johnson controls in it. Not a big fan, if you don’t keep up with the corrosion on the terminals. Only battery brand I know that does this. But that’s been doing well as well for being over 4 yrs old. Tested with a proper tester and it test like new. This gets a tender on it sometimes

Only kinda'. There is much overlap with Exide and Clarios. But to buy the cheapest? Not correct. It's almost as bad as buying the cheapest tires.
