Wife had to work tonight so I took her in and will pick her up when done. Her T4R has the push button start and they don’t have a remote start for them that doesn’t kill the motor when opening the door. So I’ll be the gentleman and bring her a warm chariot.
Scored major browny points Thursday night when we got hit by the storm they let us out early and I made it to her work and had her rig all cleaned off and she had a warm truck to sit it while hers warmed up.

Wait so she can remote start it, she just has to do it again when she gets in?

That's fairly standard across Toyota/Lexus vehicles iirc. To reduce the ease of theft?

All the Toyota’s do that. It’s part of the immobilizer system. It just kills the motor when you open the door (so someone cant steal your vehicle). Restart it and off you go.

That's what I'm saying can't she just remote start it? And then when it's time to leave she gets in puts a foot on the brake presses the button again and off she goes.

Seems more convenient than starting another vehicle, warming it up, starting the 4runner, sitting in the other vehicle, then moving back to the 4runner. Maybe I missed something, though.

Why doesn't she just start it and warm it up with the remote start? Get in and restart it and go.. What am I missing?

I think I figured out what we're missing from this story.

Quality time with a couple, and brownie points.

My Tacoma doesn’t do that. I can unlock the door and get in while it still runs. Put in the key and turn it to run put it in drive and go.
The only time it will shut off is if I put my foot on the brake without the key in. Still do that every once in a while.

The 4R system puts a lot of extra starts and stops that shouldn’t be needed. Which happens to be the hardest on motors. Everything mechanical has a cycle count.

Thursday night I didn’t make a special trip to help her out. Just a slight detour to her work. 41 years of marriage I hope I’ve gained some smarts to women folk. LOL

Restarting the motor after it just shut off isn't going to hurt it. It's cold starts that cause wear. Aside from that, these are 500K mile motors. A few extra starts won't hurt.

True, you're putting extra wear on the starter. But, the original starter on my '03 was still going strong at 257K miles. I bet you would still get 10 years out of the starter if you restart it on cold mornings.

It’s not nearly as many extra starts as the new auto stop bullshit so many manufacturers now seem to think is a good idea..

I dont think its nearly enough extra to worry about. yeah its more but its only gonna be during the winter months.

That auto stop/start seems ridiculous! I can't imagine it saves a significant amount of fuel.

I think it would be great for delivery drivers but i dont see it being hugely beneficial for most people. It’s especially obnoxious during the summer time cuz the fans change speed every time it shuts down.

It’s fairly easy. Usually the hardest part is getting the dash apart but even that’s not too bad. Looks like that should be all plug and play.

There are usually plug and play adapters for that kind of thing now, so wiring should be easy.

Like @Shellshock said, pulling the dash apart will probably be the hardest part.

Don't do the dash when it's -3 out and you'll be fine lol
