I know this is a year old, but going from the top was far, far easier to install for me. Pro-tip: triple-check the mounts on the lights; the ears go toward the center of the vehicle, and the holes are toward the exterior, check connectivity, ensure all the wiring is clipped in before screwing in place. I used brake noise spray (non-reactive acetone) to help make the EPDM rubber stick a bit better to the ears.
