I was just asking what y’all use. I have a bow saw and axe and a chainsaw (stihl ms311) myself.

thought about moving to an Oregon batter powered one based on first hand knowledge of their ability’s but I can’t come to grips spending 300+ on something I have already (chainsaw) that works great.

Right. Besides its the Prius drivers that have the bad name. If you've ever been behind a Prius you know what I'm talking about

My dad was a die hard Stihl guy and used them all the time. He had a self loading log truck and a small mill. I made my best money as a teen debarking trees and helping pull lumber. I'm saying the dude loved his chainsaws.

He just converted to a Milwaukee cordless m18 chainsaw in his full time retirement and won't stop talking about how nice it is. Now he is mostly in the woods with his trailer so he uses the saw for a camping and camp clearing. I think for making money gas is still king. If I had to make my decision again I wouldn't have a Stihl 250 I'd have a Milwaukee M18 because I'm just a poser who likes the occasional dusting of man glitter. But now I have a great chainsaw and it may be a long time till I change.

I hear good things about the Milwaukee but that Oregon battery powered is a boss!

I just saw 'self sharpening'. What space magic is this? Milwaukee was mostly to share batteries. Looking at reviews and features that thing looks sweet.

I’m totally cool with chainsaws (gas or electric) for clearing trails but I’m not a fan for camping. Not really leave no trace.

Ego 14" that takes the same batteries as my mower and blower and all the other ego tools.

Backup (since you know, batteries die and all that) is a chainsaw blade on straps. (lives in the truck) And the edge on the shovel (also lives in the truck).

I'm not sure what I'm sawing in camp. Splitting wood? Sure. But I'm not gathering wood at the campsite, either.

I was originally referencing the Instagram overlanders that post videos of them breaking out the chainsaw to fell a tree and buck up firewood at camp. Or chop up enormous logs. There’s a lot more of those idiots out there than there should be.

Oh.. I don't insta. Only time I'm gonna break out the saw is to make sure I can gtfo. Or if I'm hunting my christmas tree.

    ..

The only offroad *loggers I pay attention to are these guys, tbh. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9TFE8rEwkOeQQ068Yk7-2Ts5SCweXN-T

Since you know, kids and wheeling and stuff. I'll hit their Mohave stuff one of these days, but in the meantime my wheeling buddy and I are planning out a OBCD route for a kiddo friendly week during summer vacation.

    DIY Fabricobbler.

The one time I went wheeling this year, I threw in my Dewalt 60V chainsaw. We only made it about 1 mile of actual trail run the entire day, but had to use the chainsaw twice in that one mile to cut logs out from behind the front tires of two vehicles that slid off trail in the snow. There was no chance of pulling these rigs without the logs removed first.

Chainsaw will always go with me now as it has already proved its worthiness.

For $20 bucks it is 100% better than nothing. Takes up no space in my truck. I have used it to move a small fallen tree from a camp site and a few times for broken branches. If it's not enough then I don't need to go that way right now. Not everyone has a bunch of cash for gear.

    Savage

I have used my recip saw. It works, but isn’t the greatest. I found the axe was easier and quicker. That’s my .02

I’m sure I’ll just stick with the bow saw and axe for 97% of the time. Even if you get a big blow down, the axe will take care of it........ with the right amount of time and back strength.

This is gonna be an ignorant question, but what kind of axe would you use?
