I tried using a pool floatie for my cap. It kept deflating so I ended up using pipe insulation formed into a circle and duct tape. It was a field expedient solution for a hasty trip from Texas to Illinois in the winter.

Be careful what you put up on the roof, in an accident of any appreciable speed they'll become a flying object, smashing through the window into your cab... Especially the business end of that shovel. IMHO.

I never stated they were. I simply said that they are not worth it to me. Nice toppers but hefty price tag, especially considering they are not even painted to match. I would however love an RSI.

Hey is this harness a Y connector on the other end that pops into the middle bulb base on the driver tail light?

I’m trying to figure out if this is what was provided by RSi, or if this is what the installer used.

That's the y connector that comes from RSI, atleast its what came in the package delivered to my house.

Thanks, I found the paperwork also that shows the same thing in the back of the manual. I only had a couple minutes to look at it before I had to leave for work, but the tail light bulb on that driver side is not illuminating (brake and turns work). I notice that Y plug on all 3 connectors is only 2 wires. The stock plug is 3, I assume one of those is brake light and the other is tail, and the one omitted on the RSi plug is the tail?

I'll take a better look tomorrow and maybe they plugged it into the wrong connector, but what I see is that stock connector on the middle bulb was removed, and each end of the Y (2 wire) plugged in it's place. Essentially sending a signal from the factory 3 wire plug to the tail bulb and the RSi tail/brake light.

I just disconnected it and headed into work.

Yup, same issue here. The harness supplied connects to the bulb base with a Y connector. Problem is the stock connector is 3 wire for the tail light and the brake light, where the Y connector is 2 wire just for the brake light.... so it’s omitting the tail light when connected.

That seems like a major oversight, I have to assume all of these plugs are shipping this way, and no one is getting a functional tail light when in use.

So I had to re wire the y connector they sent over as it was flipped for the 3rd brake light connector. I am fairly certain we checked the tail lights to make sure they all worked after adding y connector. I'll double check when i get home

Yup, I’m super curious if you have the same 2 wire connector how it could work. I left the install shop in the afternoon and basically went straight to work.... leaving work that night my buddy was behind me and instantly calls me “they wire that brake light on the driver side?”

I pulled out the light housing yesterday just expecting to find a t-tap not seated correctly or making a good connection, saw that Y adaptor. Only had a couple minutes to mess with it so I removed it and went back to stock and left for work. I’ll probably just go out later and cut the plugs off and tap them in myself.

It’s an easy fix, I’m just baffled that they went to the effort of providing a nice clean harness but didn’t just bridge in that extra wire over. Are their some models of Tacoma that only have 2 wire, or other manufactures that use that same bulb socket that are only 2 wire and it works for them but not the Tacoma?

    Weird.

The adapter that came with my EVOa didn't work but the replacement they sent me after I had a support ticket made through them worked just fine.

Was it missing the 3rd wire or were the wires reversed?

I think it was reversed. I didn't really scrutinize the new harness. I plugged, it played, everyone happy.

I think it’s the best way to maximize storage.

I k ow some of you said you had leaks due the bed and not the SmartCap. Mine should get here this week so I’m trying to plan ahead.

Yes. I’m also in the camp of people that don’t care or didn’t expect to have a waterproof bed.

I pre-sealed my front corners with butyl tape and it worked like a charm on one corner, but I'm going to have to re-do the other. I also have ESI tailgate seal and rokblock to install on the tailgate side when it's a little warmer. One other intrusion point I noticed is there is a large gap between the underside of the body and the top of the bed on the driver side rear of the bed. Water that your tire kicks up (and gravel and mud) splashes into the bed from there. I'm going to be sealing that with waterproof expanding landscape foam.
