im not sure on specifics for the rack. I got it used and didn't ask too many questions.

my truck is a short bed. you can tell by body lines that stop at the rear doors. long beds have those bottom lines go into the bed infront of the wheel wells

Thanks. In that case I think you've got the full height short bed rack. How much clearance would you say you've got from the top of your seat to the bottom of the rail? I'm assuming you've got lower your dropper post to get bikes to fit.

with my dropper down theres maybe an inch from my seat to the rail. its a 170mm reverb too so kinda tight. my friends bikes fit in there too, but droppers need to be down. i have to lower my road bike seat quite a bit if i want to fit it in there, though i dont have any pictures of that.

i have mixed feelings on the bed rack. on one hand, its great to fit bikes under it and being able to crawl in there is nice. on the other id like to have my tonneau cover on but then bikes cant fit so a full height isnt necessary. with that in mind, i dont leave things in there unattended for a long period of time in a public place.

All great insights! I've got a soft toppper currently, but it's a pain the ass to fit more than one bike in there because you've got to drop the tailgate first and then the hold bike in place as you close the tailgate. I was thinking of selling that and then picking up a rack. The rack seems to fix the multiple bike issue, but that obviously brings up the security issue you mentioned. I was thinking with the KB Voodoo setup potentially running a roll up cover underneath the rack, so that when I'm out and about with the bikes I can have the rest of the gear covered. Obviously won't stop a determined thief but outside of sight, out of mind. I don't leave my bikes unattended for extend period, or when I do I've got them at least chained down to the bed.

@mrtonyd Sorry, one more question. What size tent do you have? I've got a Tepui 3-person and was wondering if you have the same one. Trying to get some context on rack to tent size.

The bike comparison was pretty spot on considering I've got a Bronson with a 170 mm dropper.

a roll up cover under the rack would be perfect, im sure there are some that work great with a voodoo. the guy i got the rack from would have to hold the bike on the side in the air to get it in the bed. i just drop the tailgate, place the front wheel over it, and close the tailgate. it makes me feel a little more secure as i can lock the tailgate to make it a little more difficult to get the bikes out if i happen to glance away for a second or two.

i have a tepui kukeman (3 person) explorer series. i was tempted for a low-pro, but didnt like how one side was thicker than the other.

no worries on the questions, keep them coming. its friday and im procrastinating a bit at work.

one thing ive been considering for the rack is some light to replace the cab brake light since the rack and tent cover it. i haven't been pulled over, i think the law is 2 brake lights must be visible, but i dont have any sources for that.

ive since mounted a waterport mount on the side the tent folds out, but think the other side would be better since the tent cover lays over it and space gets tight on that side. rotopax may fit, but again it may be tight

Ha, the setup you're building out it is so similar to what I'm envisioning! I was ultimately planning on throwing a water port on their too! I was then thinking of removing the other accessory mount so their is easier access to the bed. If that turns out not to be an option, I"ll probably move the traction boards and high lift from the bed to the rack. I just don't use those things all that often (i.e. really ever) so not sure they need such easy access.

Moving out to WA state in a few weeks, so just googled the brake light law and looks like only 2 are required. In the clear there.

What you're describing in terms of loading the bike is what I've got to do currently with the soft topper. I'm hoping by sticking a short bed rack on my long bed there will be enough room that I don't need to drop the tailgate, or at very least not have to twist the bike too much.

I'll try reaching out to KB Voodoo directly and see if they have any recommendations on roll-up cover.

    Hello All.

Just wondering if I could get some help. I have a Victory 4x4 gas can holder that I am going to mount on my voodoo rack. Last night I was thinking to save room I could bolt it to the back of the rack. (see picture I created to show basic idea). I was wondering if anyone saw any potential problems with this set up. Thanks.

Disclaimer this is not my truck I used a pic from this thread to mock up idea. Hope that is ok.

The only issue that I can think of is knocking it off going through a drive-thru

Anyone have pics of 14” rotopax INSIDE a 14” taco max with OEM tonneau. Wondering if they’ll fit.
    Thanks

    It's very tight, but doable:

I’m thinking the tonneau cover mounts are what will give me the extra clearance I need.

In the picture above, I have the side accessory panel mounted a little low. It can be raised a notch to give you more clearance.

I have the old style bed rack and want to add the tonneau cover brackets for slightly more height. Do these brackets still work the with old style or no?

Ah okay, do you still make ones that fit the old style or would it be possible for me modify these ones to fit?
