Well, then go back to my first sentence and start there. :boink:

What is your definition of rock crawling, lets establish that first. o_O

Post up some example pictures of what kind of obstacles you want to test a new 3rd gen on, and then we can work from that. :worthless:

Try it stock and go from there. Shouldn't be a problem at all. :pccoffee:

    They recommend 37s though.

Rock crawling? My suggestion would be get a Toyota with dual transfer cases and convert the engine over to propane. Run multiple tanks in the bed, and cut the bed short, like just past the rear tire. Then convert the steering over to hydraulic instead of rack and pinion. Slap some 37x13.5s and some sliders and you’re good to go.

Also be sure to get a OR with AT so you get the MTS and CC.

Did "They" also recommend the RC 6" lift so you don't have to cut any fenders? Where exactly do you think the 37" tires are going to go when you stuff them on any of those trails you just suggested?

    SAS, 6" lift, 5.29 gears, and 37's.

Or, modest lift, armor, good 33's, and see how far that gets you.

Gotta start somewhere.... just not with a bracket lift. There's tons of information in here, you're going to have to read up on what it take to do what you have in mind. Trucks are not good rock crawlers, to much overhand front and rear, and a long wheelbase.

It's pretty easy to figure out once you do some research. But, a few examples are: solid front axle, optional front locker, short wheelbase, short overhangs, the ability to fit 37's without having much modification.

You don't need to do anything to it, Tacoma truck is so tough, just smash the skinny pedal and blast over the rocks.

ok i have thought about this. not that im doing it now but retaining info for possible future.

if i was going to build a rock crawler i would NOT be buying a new vehicle. From what i heard when you start adding better axels and this locker and that locker you start to run into lots of issues with all the computer stuff not wanting to play together with things.. a lot of them that do it have christmas trees in the dashboard with all the stuff thrown on.. now im sure there is ways around some of this but for me i wouldnt want to deal with all that shit.

i know what some will say ohh but the comfort cause im driving it to the trails.. well that is dumb. if you are seriously rock crawling you should trailer that thing out to the trail.

i cant make a recomendation on what i WOULD get but i do love the old CJ's when done up.

Did Cliffhanger on skinny 35s, open front diff, and basic sliders and a rear bumper. For Pritchett I'd say that and a front locker with some good driving will get you through.

Crawl control literally got me up the obstacle pictured above, after I gave it my all. Just needed the one front tire that wasnt spinning to budge, and it did the trick. It rarely does anything, but its worked a couple times how I wanted it to.
