I was being facetious. That’s just what the engineer said in the 3rd gen sneak peek video a few years back about why we don’t get rear disk brakes.

I’m honestly impressed it made it that far - never been on sand like that, but can’t imagine trying to attempt to get though that soft stuff!

I made it this far in 2WD, the track I followed turned from dirt/sand to dune in an instant. Surprisingly the dunes felt pretty solid until I reached a peak.

Did you try automatic crawl control? I remember seeing that Toyota video where the truck just seemed to magically lift itself straight up out of the sand.

I forfeited that feature with a manual transmission. We have clutch cancel which uses the starter to assist the truck starting uphill. It prevents rollback when starting the truck in 1st gear. I still have A-trac and rear lockers... none of this helps if you were stubborn like I was and get yourself really buried. Lesson learned for sure

    Live and learn.
The trick is to not continue to dig in.
And learn to rock back and forth with throttle...before you get to the frame.
    ...shit happens.
Sand and dunes are tricky, out in Christmas valley dunes, some one got themselves broken/hurt nearly every time we went out there.

I have been up to the frame in a couple reservoir bottoms, digging and rocks and trees/bushes for traction.
Lots of swear words placed at the right time helps too...no trees to hook the winch to.
    Snowmoblie trails can suck.
    And deep pumice holes.

First of all, it was a joke, calm down.

Secondly, manuals dont have all the fancy nannies? All the more reason not to buy a Turd gen. :p

I feel like you definitely would have faired better with much much lower tire pressure like everyone else said. Plus, momentum is very important.

I sure hope you got this figured out by now! Its been several days

Not sure if you have seen these airbags, lifts you up so you can get your traction boards under your wheels.

I’m glad someone suggested this because thats usually where the fastest help seems to come from. I would imagine, because everybody has facebook in an app on their phone which is much easier access than a forum page on the internet which most people access via computer.

also, it might help if you add these posts to the OP so that people know you are now safe and unstuck. Or so that the story is easier to follow

Thats what i said, and now people think i’m an asshole

Add this to the OP :gossip:

    And this too :gossip:

Everybody loves a good recovery story ending with video!!!!

Read everything, maybe it just wasnt as easy to follow as you think. In addition, I still dont appreciate the attitude.

Some posts are just shit posts. Whether intentional or not. Yet, they all have the potential to bump the thread to the top of the site where more people can see it and either help, or read a good story.

I’m glad someone clarified this! Because clearly i’m not the only one that didnt know, and now we’ve all learned something new! :)

I’m sure there are a ton of people out there who would be too prideful to ask for help publicly, let alone make a video of it. So kudos to you OP! Glad it all worked out and stay safe out there.

I personally have very limited experience with sand like this, so I will willingly admit that this could have almost as easily happened to me

Just watched your video and read this thread. Glad you're out and thanks for documenting it. Similar thing happened to me in Anza Borrego this weekend. Towing my camper too it wasnt fun. Google maps said turn here and you've arrived. That dirt road turned into 3ft of super soft sand instantly and came to a halt. Wasn't aired down since I had just left the pavement. Realized quick I wasn't in the right area. Didn't panic, didn't wanna dig myself in deeper. Immediately started shoveling around the tires, aired down, got myself up onto the maxsa traction boards, felt the grip and hauled ass outta there. All with the trailer in tow, wife kids and dogs along for the ride. This was after a 3 hour drive to get to camp. Almost was a shitty day. Now looking back it was an adventure. Glad I was cautious and carried a lot of recovery gear. turns out the road I needed was like twenty yards away . Google was close and there were no signs from the direction I was going.
