I used to work for Gulfstream in Savannah and Dallas. They are some great aircraft! I flew on a G150 once, but never got a chance to fly on their large cabins. Great pic!

Full moon, late bird in the sky, and some 737's on the ground waiting for service.

Was supposed to fly my 150 to Henderson, KY last Thursday to get the Tempest spin-on kit installed by my mechanic. Preheated the engine, no issues on preflight. Engine started in less than 2 prop swings, and man she was running smooth as I taxied out to do my run-up. Lined up on the runway, pushed the throttle. Engine was still running great, gauges all in the green, RPMs good, airspeed.....is not alive. Yanked the throttle back & got it off the runway. Shut it down & checked the pitot tube, all looked good, tried again, no go. Thought, it's cold this morning, maybe pitot heat? Couldn't hurt. Third time was not a charm. Aborted the takeoff a third time, taxied back and put her in the hangar. Went up to the office to cool off my temper and bs with the airport manager.

Talked to a couple friends later on FB and one of them mentioned the tubing mabye coming loose from the fitting on the airspeed indicator. That's when I had a lightbulb moment.

I found the problem when I decided to remove the panel to see if I'd somehow damaged the tubing in January when I'd replaced the left window post panel after installing some insulation at the wing root. Turns out, I inadvertently dismantled a repair to the tubing made by the previous owner's mechanic. Before I even got the panel loose to check, I felt the end of the tubing just sticking up by the windshield. A real "Well, thar's yer problem" moment. Too late in the day to salvage a trip to the mechanic, so I called it and shut the hangar door.

Oh well. That's flying some days.

Knowing when to quit/abort safely is the bravest thing a pilot can do... smart decision.

If I had an AoA indicator onboard I would have felt comfortable making the ~35 min flight. Another pilot said "Shoot you fly this thing enough you probably could have done it just fine." Maybe, but it's just not worth the risk for me. I always connect the go/no-go call for any flight to one foundational statement.

You don't have to fly anywhere.

Yeah you probably could have, but pending a zombie apocalypse or a life or death need to fly away, you made the right call. Remember that flying without an airspeed indicator violates FAR 91.205

Are we allowed to share bird strike pictures?

Asking first before posting something that might sicken, offend, or hurt someone feelings.

Remember that the site does have a CoC, and there are mods that peruse this thread. This is supposed to be a family friendly site, after all.

Anything overly gruesome is usually removed.

    Thanks for the replies.

I understand this is a family friendly website, thus I asked first before posting aviation related picture such as bird strikes.

    I won't post it.

Instead. Here's a 737-MAX almost ready for flight.

It shouldn’t be an issue, there’s a whole thread for gorey photos of injuries, just make sure that there’s a “safe for work” photo in the post first so that photo shows up on the Home Screen preview, and then if you want you can put the gorey photo in the “spoiler” and mark it as nasty and people would have to click on it to see it.
