Epic! Thank you so much! Been searching for this (apparently not hard enough) for a while.

I’ll have to open the tcase up and see if it has the teeth there. It’s from an fj so who knows. I believe I’ll just need the vss items. With my luck though I’ll have to drop the case.

    thanks again!

you should not have to open the case up, just take the cover off where the speed sensor goes. You can see the worm gear from there. Might save you some labor. From what I read, only some of the newer cases from the 4runners don't have the worm gear from the factory.

That was my understanding as well. I’ll start acquiring parts and go from there. Just need the speedo there so the auto shifts properly (supposedly a problem). If it wasn’t for that I would stick with gps.

Might be cheaper to find a VSS out of a junk t-case as well? Depends if you can source it or not

The connector with pigtail would def be cheaper, there are also aftermarket knockoffs for the speed sensor which seems like a good option being that it's not that critical of an application. ebay and google are your friends once you have the P/Ns lol

Absolutely. May call the dealer just to see. Find some random things aren’t that pricey. Sure this won’t be the case but you never know. Spark plugs were cheaper at the dealer compared to my automotive store.

really appreciate all the info. After I broke an fj diff tube this year I am building one ton axles hoping to get this project out of the way so it’s one less thing to worry about when sas swap happens.

For sure, I've been surprised once in a while like that too. Look forward to seeing the swap progress. Always good to stay one step ahead of the carnage, one tons should definitely help that goal :)

Exactly. My goal is to completely refresh the front end so it can last a few years while I build the axles up and figure out what the hell I am doing. Lots to learn. Happy that I have TMR customs somewhat local to me which is nice. Not the best, but being in Canada, the shipping on truss kits and stuff gets out of hand.

I bought a second fj case since my original is cracked around the shifters and I guess the new one didn’t come with one.

Any reason why you took it off? Is it made to a specific gear?

I have since gone to a Currie axle with ABS sensors so I didn’t need it plus I just removed my transfer case and did the fj swap. I’ve got the worm gear, sensor, wire, (although the split loom is toast) and you’ve already seen the wiring instructions above. Depending on your year model you may have to jump from the ABS module to the dash as well.
