Everywhere I look I see Tacomas with missing fuel doors. Spend quite a bit on the sea to sky between north and and Whistler and I spot them everywhere, not only on old trucks. 3rd gen tacos, no fuel doors.

Any of you guys seeing the same thing, I swear I see at least a different one everyday missing it.

I have never seen a Tacoma with missing fuel door actually.

Maybe the folks you saw were emulating the Jeep look?

Yikes that would be something. I’m going to have the old lady take some pics when I’m driving. Thought maybe it was some prank the Ford guys were playing around here.

Ive read on here that fuel doors are prone to bending or breaking if you get sand/gravel stuck in the hinge. Havent seen many missing though. :notsure:

Maybe you have a bunch of confused crackheads starting up a new theft enterprise? How many fuel doors do you see on your local craigslist? :rasta:

Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
    They break after numerous usage.

The preventative maintenance I take is to spray lithium grease on the door hinge/spring whenever it starts getting stiff.

The hinge on mine corroded and one of the two has cracked but it's still hanging in there. I have a spare already but still need to rattle can it and then get the dealership to install it. Will be getting a can of lithium grease to prevent that from happening again.

My second fuel door is failing, again the hinge is seizing up.

The first door lasted about 40,000km before it failed in OPEN position, so I removed it. I got it replaced and painted under warranty, and while this second OEM door has been good for about 100,000km, it is starting to make lots of noise when I open/close it.

Can confirm I see a lot missing in the Yukon. I think it's a weak link and a rough life up here.

@Yukon DoIt I approve of you complimenting a 2nd gen Tacoma with a first gen 4Runner!

Recently the door hinge rusted off of 2006 Sequoia. I went to add gas and the door flew off reminiscent of Grizwold's Family Truckster in Vacation. Now it is properly stored under the passenger driver's seat. I could fix it or get a sticker that says "It's a Jeep Thing."

Caught one that parked besides me yesterday. He seemed to think it was a 2012 thing but will be spraying some lube on the hinge every once in awhile
