06 Tacoma TPMS

Has anyone had any luck on resetting or disconnecting the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS)....I really don't want to spend a hundred miillion dollars on having them changed out.

TPMS sensors are $20 each on Amazon. Any tire store will replace them at no cost when you buy tires. Most will install them for $10 each if you're not buying new tires.

Since your truck has one in the spare you'll have to buy a 5th one.

Sensors typically last 7-10 years, but the ones on my 2007 were still working. I had new tires mounted last week and the folks at Discount Tire replaced mine and made sure they were reading at no extra cost. These are the ones I ordered linked above and they should also fit your 2006.

I'd advise anyone with sensors over 7 years old to order new ones and have them installed when they buy tires the next time. Even if the old ones are still working they most likely will stop before you wear out that set of tires.

This isn't terribly expensive. Spending $80-$100 every 7-10 years works out to about the cost of one McDonalds Value Meal per year. Having to put one in the spare does run up the cost a little bit. If you're close to needing new tires just wait until you are ready to buy tires then spend $100 for new sensors. If you can't wait it'll cost you $100 for the sensors and $50 more to have them installed.

Added: If your spare is 10+ years old you'll need to replace it too. I picked up a used 5 year old tire to replace my 14 year old spare. Cost me $35 for the tire and to have it mounted.

 

I'm in the same boat with my '06. I've looked at the mobiltron sensors but reviews seem to be hit and miss. I've been living with the flashing light with some black felt covering it to keep from going nuts.
