mine reads 50* higher on the grates than the controller is set.

I don’t mind that for grilling or cooking chicken, but for low and slow I have to keep it on 200F and it still finishes early. Also another reason I want a Yoder, because it has a shelf to get the meat higher up off the fire pot. Where temps are a little more accurate

@EricL I've also had a lot of good success with the Pitboss Competition blend pellets...$16 for 40lbs, so it's cheap too.

Also, I use one of these to store my pellets, it works great, holds right at 40lbs.

Suppose you could use a 5gal bucket as well...

I’ve about killed the smoker @EricL gave me! Looking to upgrade but torn between a smoker or a smoker propane combo.

The patio will be done this weekend hopefully! So I need new grill!

Last nights smoked ribeye and eggs!

I like that container idea. Last night I picked up a bag of the fruit mix Pitboss pellets, but I don't have anything to store them in.

I may or may not part with my WSM, but wont know for sure until I really get a chance to check out the Pitboss for a few cooks.

Freaking ribeyes are my favorite steak to smoke, with New York strips being a close second. 40 minutes around 200° and a quick sear. :hungry:

Agree with this. If nothing else it seems like you lose a lot of cook space with the combos.

I've got the Masterbilt 560. A gravity fed charcoal grill. I looked into the pellet grills but they don't get super hot for a quick sear. Plus I like the charcoal flavor but charcoal is a lot more expensive. It's got wi-fi and came with a temp probe that you can see on the app. As well as control the temp on the app.

mine will get to 650F with the diffuser removed, searing right over top of the fire pot. It works great, but I still prefer using my weed burner on full afterburner. You won't get a better or quicker sear than a 3000F flame a couple inches from the meat.

Not me, but you get the idea ;)

Ah ok. Most pellets I've seen wouldn't go past like 400. Mine goes to 700. There are times I wish I'd just bought an electric smoker, and a different charcoal grill. I've had to up my temps because that 20lbs of charcoal only goes about 6-8 hours. But smoking at 300 instead of 225 still produces great results.

My wife put in a grocery order online, and when I got hone they had swapped a small Boston butt for an 11lb one. Went out and bought a smoker. Seasoned the smoker and meat the day before I smoked it. It’s my first smoker and my buddies all use pellets... so I bought pellets. Nope. Mine is a chip smoker... so if anybody local needs some pellets I’ll hook you up. Pics for attention 6110B572-BB0C-4FBD-9C25-347DDC080FFC.jpg03A656E7-6948-47FC-B500-54860FB6D991.jpg

I was thinking about the electric masterbuilt w/ the built in probe and bluetooth, etc. Also has the trap on the side to dump in chips w/o having to open the whole door.

I have this model... but the non-bluetooth version. The built in probe isn't very accurate.. I use a Maverick wireless thermometer instead.

Mine is the electric digital $249 model without the probe or Bluetooth. I’m running a Bluetooth cuisinart thermometer with two probes. You can add chips without opening the door. Ive never smoked anything before and I made awesome pulled pork on the first try. Next I want to try and do a brisket.

I have my probes but can't find the units to save my life. :annoyed: That's one of the things I was hoping to take advantage of with the Smoke IT app thing, but now I am a bit skeptical from what others say.

that's my thoughts...boston butts, briskets, maybe some chicken or bacon too. figure this would be a good stepping stone to get into it w/o breaking the bank.
