ADS Off-Road Racing Shocks - Information, Pictures, & BS Thread

Shafts measure 12 3/8” of exposed with the shaft bump stop, 13 1/4” without the shaft bump stop. Total length eye to eye is 33”.

 

Are you doing a shock tower relocation or something with these? These going on your 3rd gen?

 

Yeah, these will be going on the 3rd gen with an Archive Garage shock relocate.

 

You happen to have a part number for these?

 

No. They’re custom built based off what I discussed with ADS.

They are 2.5x13” shocks (20.25” compressed/33.25” extended) with a welded lower eyelet and remote reservoirs that have compression adjusters. I gave them the specs on my truck with how much added weight I have, what leaf springs I have, and my style of driving so they could come up with valving that would kind of work with my setup.

 

Same thing they quoted me for the rears, $660 each plus $250 each for the clickers, 4-5 week lead time. As soon as I get the funds I'm going to pull the trigger on front and rears.

Lots of talk here around page 190 about these extended travel coilovers having less travel than stock. Can someone who has a set lift their truck and measure hub to fender at full droop? Seems a stock 3rd gen would be 24.5". We can compare to that number and see if the shorter stroke is detrimental to max travel.
Or was this worry squashed and I missed it?

 

Question for my Tacomans. I have 1.5 inches worth of thread on my front 2.5 extended travel can I throw another turn on them? I have some forward rake I want to get rid of. TIA

 

why do you want to get rid of rake? Rake is a good thing in many aspects of braking performance and handling. Function over form

 

Has anyone with comp adjusters removed the adjuster knob off of the reservoir? A little bit of dirt has creeped its way under my adjuster and is binding it up. I want to pull the knob off and clean behind it. I have removed the allen bolt that goes through the center of the knob, but I'm not having any luck pulling the knob off. Any help is much appreciated.

 

So went out and played, checked suspension after. Seems like I under clocked my drivers reservoir and the tire rubbed a bit at full lock (4.5” bs wheels). Got through a little bit of rubber. What do you guys think? i’m not a hydraulic line expert by any stretch, but this seems like it won’t be any issue, right? is the steel reinforcement stainless or should i throw a quick shot of enamel to protect it?

 

Yikes! That's discomforting to see huh?

After reading this, I tested my reservoir line with a small magnet. Stuck to it like glue. Might want to paint it, and then PlastiDip it for extra water protection.

I would also contact ADS and see if this wear point will cause any issues structurally (although I doubt it).

 

Did 30-40 mph down the Hassayampa River today. Small and medium whoops. The ride was fantastic. Controlled and stable. I’ve got no rubbing or interference with anything. Very pleased with these shocks’ performance.

 

Thanks for the reassurance! I did contact ADS and have also thrown some bumper coating (enamel paint) that I had laying around on there to protect the steel braids from corrosion.

 

With my experience, I feel these coil overs are optimal between 1.5" - 2" over stock and nothing above that. 2" might even be pushing it. These are only OEM bolt-in upgrades.

As for rake, I would keep some for handling / braking performance. Did you install new springs front / rear and have they settled?

 

I wish I would have done this right out of the box!

For anyone that is watching, Tyler from ADS responded to my message and said the hose is still fine in this state and will function as intended.

 

I literally giggle with joy everytime I get on a dirt road and feel How amazing these shocks are.
