Always Pressurized Waterport

Something I built a while back that several people always ask about.
I figured TW was the best place to do a write up so here it goes:

I have a ARB Single Air Compressor mounted under the hood of my 2017 Tacoma.
The ARB compressor is wired through a Switch-Pros SP-9100 to be used as it’s on/off switch.


All ARB compressors to my knowledge come with a inline pressure switch mounted to the discharge of the compressor that shuts it off automatically when the pressure reaches approx. 100psi.

When the pressure falls in the discharge line the compressor will turn back on until the pressure switch is made again. This pressure switch always needs installed in a Tee fitting before anything else in the compressor discharge line to insure no over-pressurization occurs and damages your compressor.

YOUR FITTING CONFIGURATIONS WILL PROBABLY DIFFER BASED ON HOW AND WHERE YOUR AIR COMPRESSOR/WATERPORT IS INSTALLED! THIS IS MY WAY!

PARTS:
I used a Viair Pressure Regulator I had laying around but there are many more cheaper options available online for this and at most big box hardware stores.

Below is a link to a cheaper option but is relatively the same regulator I used.

I removed the waterport water nozzle holder they provide and drilled out the mounting screw holes on the bracket for the Viair Regulator and re-installed it with the provided rusty waterport screws for the nozzle/gun holder/holster?

-Thread Tape

-1/4” Air Line (However long you need to get from your on board air compressor on your vehicle to your waterport)

-(2) 90°, 1/4” MPT X 1/4” Tubing Compression Fittings (For Regulator)

-(1) Straight 1/8” MPT X 1/4” Tubing Compression Fitting (For Waterport) Removed the shrader valve that comes in the waterport!

-(1) 1/4” X 1/4” 90° Street Elbow (On Air Compressor. Yours may differ)

-(1) 1/4” X 1/4” Tee (For Hose Chuck On Air Comp.)

-(1) Straight 1/4” MPT X 1/4” Tubing Compression Fitting (For Air Compressor Side)

-(1) 1/4” Ballvalve

(On Air Compressor to valve off air to waterport if needed.)

-(1) 1/4” Incline Check Valve

I set my regulator around 20psi. That seems to be the sweet spot with mine.

Turn your air compressor power switch to “ON” and start spraying water. Your Air Compressor should now kick on and off as needed to keep your Waterport maintained at the desired pressure.

Water for shower or small brush fires or ?

Very cool - great idea as I have the ARB dual....and always looking for uses

BTW where did you get the cap for your ARB QD?

 

We use the Waterport in the truck for camp showers, cleaning dishes, spraying the dog off when he rolls in something and extinguishing camp fires mostly.
It holds a little less than 4 gallons. They’re “okay” but not great. I’d like to carry a little more water and have a system with pressed in metal threads for hose connections and such rather than threaded plastic like the waterport has.
I’m in the process of replacing it with a 12 gallon Front Runner Tank.

Thanks for the write up! I see you’re using a hose and nozzle that isn’t original to the waterport. Would you mind listing where you purchased and parts? My nozzle is leaking and I’m looking to find superior parts instead of ordering from waterport. Thanks in advance!

Any garden hose or nozzle will work. This is the hose I used. The nozzle was just laying around my garage at the time and a lot better than the one they send.
