License plate light Disable while In Reverse (DIR)

In for this on any future batch you do! Been delaying replacement of the one side that is going out due to brightness when in reverse. This would be perfect!

Has anyone activated the rear camera anytime mod with these on? Just curious how that might work...

 

The anytime.camera mod still has the license plates on. It your headlights are on just as before

 

I have. It makes it very easy to see the change.
I turned on the rear cameras with my headlights on, then shifted into reverse.
Doing it this way, you get a better feel for the improvement.
With the headlights on, turn on the rear camera and look at the screen for a few seconds to get a feel for the view.
Then shift into reverse and the plate lights go out.
It is a very revealing demonstration of how effective this mod is.

 

So it looks like we have a problem with 2021 trucks which apparently use a different connector for the reverse bulb.

Anyone with a 2021 and a black reverse connector, assuming you are unable to install, please hit me up for resolution.

EDIT: We have concluded the black connector is for the bed lighting. This post can be safely disregarded.

Not a problem. Mine is a '17.

 

I have a 21, good catch and hopefully new connectors can be found.

 

Oh, and I forgot to follow-up on this connector business. We have identified the connector and I'm ordering some tonight. It'll take a week but I should have them in reasonably short order.

EDIT: We have concluded the black connector is for the bed lighting. This post is useful for identifying the two connectors. The grey female should feed your reverse bulb or MESO total tail harness. That is the one you connect the DIR harness male into and then connect the other side to your bulb/total tail harness. There should only be one possible way to do it since MESO uses a switchback for the reverse bulb which has a different connector.

 

I have a 2021 and it has the grey connector.

I installed the harness this past weekend and it works perfect.

 

Is that a “Catch-21”?

 

Thanks for that. I think 2021 owners will likely need to double check before ordering by unbolting their taillight given this information.

 

Isn't that black socket with the pink /white wires the same one that has a plug from the factory that you utilize for 2020 plug and play bed lights?

EDIT: The black plugs might be people who opted for LED headlights from the factory as they change tail lights too right?

I'm going off of memory which doesn't help, could be completely off base.

 

If it is indeed the bed lights, could be a fun option for the hitch pod light harness.

 

Yes that would be way cool. I like that I have the adapter plug to have it come on when in reverse, but to have it work with the bed lights would be awesome.

 

It’ll be more expensive but I think that might be a fun option. I’ll get cracking on the design while we wait on connectors.

I do wish I had access to a 2021 truck.

 

Here is a good look from someone's thread where they tried installing 16-19 bed lights on a 20. The 20s are plug and play.
