yeah toyota is proud of them, that's for sure.

I went with the .030" thickness Mahle gasket and had the machine shop take off .010" since the stock one was .020" so i'm hoping everything goes back together how it came apart.. Gonna be a weekend of wrenching

Alright guys, i had a really hard time tracking down these o-rings that go on the inside of the timing cover, but i eventually found them (i think on customtacos.com). Anyways, today they came in and i confirmed on my timing cover that these will all work. So in other words, if you have to pull your timing cover off, it'd be a good idea to replace these

    Lower oil o-ring 96723-35028
Two o-rings in the middle of the timing cover on each side
    90301-25014
    90301-25020
Lower pass side of timing cover o-ring 90301-19021

Camshaft oil delivery pipe o-ring 96723-19011
Seal packing/FIPG for timing cover 00295-00103

Hopefully this helps someone on here hunting for o-rings. I will add this to the OP as well

Man I wish I'd known you were looking for these, I have all those (and receipts...) in a pile of parts for my built engine build.

Got the truck all put back together this weekend, and drove it to work this morning. Feels good so far, it went together pretty easily other than a leaky o-ring that i damaged during disassembly. Anyone want to place a bet on how long this head gasket will last? I am gonna say 5k like the other two, but i hope to god i'm wrong :D

For reference, i did it with the motor in the truck, trans still hooked up, and both oil pans on the motor still.

Much longer than 5k, with that headgasket and those studs. What did you torque them to anyhow?

Sometimes I am jealous how easy it is to do the 4 cylinder. Lol.

    I hope you're right!

I torqued them to 80 ft lbs. The APR/LCE instructions said 75-80, so i started with the toyota spec of 29, then went to 55, then to 80 following their torque sequence. The FSM calls for 29, 90* and then another 90* so i tried to take even steps to get it up to 80.

Yeah as far as simplicity goes, this motor definitely has that going for it. I really want it to hold together now that i know my way around this motor. It really is pretty easy to wrench on

I'll put my money on you're gtg.

Any time you're given torque instructions and it's xx-yy , the yy is for first time torque and the xx is for if you ever loosen and then torque again- it's not "oh how nice, options" haha

That would be awesome if so, i would be stoked.

Ahhh that is good to know. It shows how green i am lol. Its a miracle this thing is back in one piece and runs :D

So do you think theres any issue with them being a little over torqued now since this was the second time ive torqued them down?

Vast majority of people don't know that, no bad reflection on you dude I just try to make a point of it every now and then to spread the good word.
Since it's already done I definitely wouldn't loosen it, but there's a german somewhere pulling his haar out over a chance there's might be a sheered thread or two

Did not know that, I would've probably split the difference and gone with 78ft/lbs lol learned something new today.

Hey if any of you have a chance could you take a picture of your fuse box and post it please? I am trying to find out what type of fuse I am missing or if it’s normal on my truck. It appears when stuff stopped working the P/O just pulled the fuses/relays

This is the fuse I was missing how ever this truck does not have the bed power outlet which is what that slot is for. So that makes sense that it’s MIA. I finally figured out where the wiring diagrams are in TIS :anonymous:

I think I got the same notification you did that prompted this question... and to answer the question, no I haven't. But I'm now thinking about it.
