I’ve looked at several different weather sites/apps, and it seem like there’s 2 different reports. Half say it’s gonna be colder with low winds, the other half says it’s gonna be warmer with gusts around 40. Not sure what to go by, we’ve never been before. We’ll be there the 23rd-27th. Gonna have my wife and two young boys with me and I don’t wanna put anyone in danger.

depends on where you're going, Chisos basin or down by the river. Either way it'll most likely be cool at night.

Not camping either spots. Not so concerned about the temp as I am about the wind gusts. We’ll be at McKinney Springs on wed, and that’s the biggest chance for wind, 40+.

    You’ll be fine.

You’re getting 2 different reports bc it’s so damn big and can vary depending where you’re at. Pretty much idea time to go is between October and April. Any other time it’ll be hot as balls

At what point do I need to worry about damage to my RTT?

75mph is category 1 hurricane... So you should be fine at 50mph.

wouldn’t worry too much about RTT. You just won’t get good sleep with the tarp slapping all night. You’re worrying too much, you’ll be fine. Enjoy it, it’s part of camping

I would be more worried about cooking, bc you ain’t gonna keep a stove lit in those conditions

I'm old. One thing I've learned about "iffy" is 9 times out of 10 everything was fine, that 10th time when things weren't well it made me really appreciate those other 9 times.

Do follow the boy scout's motto "Be prepared". Kids are all older now, but camping was some of our favorite times. I still enjoy it, and fun being "off-grid" and out of cell range!

    Just go.

    Sandwich time!

Even with winds, a simple Coleman propane stove works fine. Winds were calm, so the "wings" aren't open when I took this photo.

We lost water and power for a good part of a week, but I still had hot oatmeal and my morning coffee to keep me going.
