It all depends just how is policy is written .

Some people pay big $$$ to insure being Stupid .

This is one of those times helping to recover even people you thought you knew can go bad real fast when money is involved .

I have to ask... has anyone that commented been through/down/up any of those chutes on Cleghorn.... or have you just stayed on the fire road?

I've never set foot in CA. I have been off the beaten path however if that's what you're asking.

Cleghorn chutes are a special kind of stupid. Meant for jeeps, Suzuki samurai, and the bold hilux/ tacoma owner. If you doba search of "damages on Cleghorn " you'll kind of understand. It eats rocker panels and rear bumpers quite often.

I can appreciate that the rollover is easy to do. The recovery was still dumb. Idk if you've every rolled a vehicle, but it only takes like 5 guys to roll it back over.... Buddy of mine rolled his explorer just like that and we rolled it back over and towed it back to his house.

Agreed. Unashamed to say I was one of the Tacos on its side at Cleghorn last year. Was able to end up back on all 4 wheels with the help of some friendly Jeep folks and a winch from behind to pull it back down. Most? of the chutes at Cleghorn can probably be done by Tacomas, but it some of them are just tricksters that can go wrong really easily.

Some of the trails are basically dirt walls on each side with nothing but scrub for vegetation, no good anchor points to pull from the side.

I completely agree, that was completely stupid on all accounts. Just saying its stupid to attempt those trails without accepting consequences for your actions. Definitely not saying that was the appropriate approach to take. I feel for the poor guy., leave my truck alone if you can't come up with a viable solution.

Yeah some of those chutes are crazy steep, and once you drop into them there's essentially no way out but down. Here's one I photographed a few years ago, that rock step in the lower right nearly sent my buddy's jeep over its nose. Glad I parked my full-size stock pickup at the top before following him down on foot!

I'm not saying it's great to drag a truck upside-down all the way to the bottom, but there are definitely spots where uprighting a 2-ton vehicle would be nearly impossible without a helicopter.

Let us count how many parts could have been salvaged for resale after the first 2 minutes.BTW... MyGoogle news feed is how I came across this. Google news is diabolical in how they gather you being on the net. It’s almost scary when you think about it. They referenced this forum and this discussion.
