With winter wearing on here in the gloomy pacific northwest, I suggested to @mrs.turbodb that perhaps we should take after the school system and celebrate our own Mid-Winter Break. Somewhere with sun, preferably. Honestly, I was a little surprised at how open to that idea she was, and quickly realized that I was not behind the eight ball to figure out a plan that would keep us busy for a week! There are worse problems to have, obviously....

...We rolled up on the gate slowly and stopped a few hundred feet from the entrance - no need to test the readiness of the Men in Black who surely sit behind the mirrored glass with Neuralyzers, ready to erase the memories of anyone who stumbles upon the secrets held within. I know they didn't use one on me because I distinctly remember the pain of slamming my finger in the door as I got out of the truck....

I was out in the boonies in Lincoln County a lot last year, glad you enjoyed Mt Irish, Shooting Gallery, and White River Narrows. Did you check out Leviathan Cave or the Quinn Canyon Range?

We didn't visit either of those places - largely because I've never heard of them! I've added them to my "research" list, which is seems to grow longer and longer for Nevada, even as I try to make it shorter and shorter !

For a state that's supposed to be all empty desert owned by BLM and the military, we have a lot to see!

This guy Jim Boone has a blog called birdandhike that's really good for finding remote NV places to explore.

...Our camp perched only a few feet from edge of the steep canyon wall, we didn't wander far for the rest of the evening, so dramatic were the views, the roar of the Colorado, and the ever changing light. We ate an early dinner to take advantage of the warm temps (at only 2,500') and make clean-up a breeze. And then, we enjoyed the sunset....

We arrived at the truck with just over three hours until sunset. Snow Canyon had been the last item on my itinerary for the day, and I had no idea where we'd be camping. That turned out to be fortuitous, as I had a desire to visit Yant Flat but nowhere to fit it into our schedule. Now, with a few hours of light, I knew we could head into the shadow of the La Sals to find camp, allowing us to explore the photogenic flats first thing in the morning....
