I Love the x grip on the A pillar, and with a two part arm, keeping it well away from the steering/stalk controls is no problem. I went with a quad lock on the motorcycle, with the phone case mount. While the case is thick, it still fits in the x grip. I don't find the operation a problem since it's in a car. On the bike was a bit more of a nuisance. The QL is a rock star in that situation. It'd be great in the truck too, but they ain't cheap, and the x grip ain't broke.

OP, thank you so much for posting this. Used your directions and installed an Xgrip on the driver side.

Decided i'm not a huge fan of the X grip and replaced it with the
    RAM-HOL-PD4-238AU
the "Quick Grip" for a bit more security. I ordered a bunch of additional parts and i'll be using the XGrip I just removed on the passenger side. :D

Got some time to use the Quad Lock on a trip a few weekends ago. No doubt its a sturdy solution with zero chance of working loose. Still not 100% sold on it over the X-grip, but it might grow on me. Its surprisingly hard to to line up and 'lock on' without being focused on lining it up perfectly. Almost like the adapter on the phone needs more of a lead-in radius to 'funnel' it in or something

I just did this with the scosche terra clamp ( magic mount pro). The magnet is so strong it's hard to take off

Have short, long, articulating arms & 2 x-grips so I added ball on passenger side and put another arm with x-grip in glovebox so if long trip, passenger can use one too.........

I recently did this mod with the following changes.
    - Used an M6 x 65mm
    - Went with the RAM Quick-Grip XL

With the 50mm bolt, the phone sat a bit high still, blocking some of my vision. The 65mm bolt allowed the Quick-Grip to come down at an angle clearing my view some and shifting away from my A.C. vent.

I needed a one-hand operation for my phone (iPhone 11) so I tried out the Quick-Grip. After using it for a couple weeks now, I like it. It's quick to put in and take out and it's super sturdy. I didn't install the side grips since it only would've got in the way for me and it still holds solid.

    Anyway, just thought I'd share.

like the 65mm bolt thing for better positioning better than the quickgrip vs xgrip but options for all is good thing......

Anybody know what the shortest length m6 bolt we can get away with?
I’ve got a 45mm bolt laying around, trying to get teverything together beforehand.

Don’t know if anyone has tried a 45mm yet. My concern was to have the arm be able to articulate on the ball hence the 50mm. If you try it with the 45mm please let us know.

50mm was too short for the ram mount I used. I needed a 55mm bolt.
