Funny that I can take a router and drill to it, but I’m still hesitant to rivet the new logo plates on!

the red light is almost brighter than the white, but neither are too much. I’m going to put vinyl up on the inside of the roof, it’s too bright during the day

Good to know. Was curious if that was too bright with the see through board. I’ll keep an eye out to see what you do

I was thinking of some vinyl on top. The white bugs me.

I thought the white would bug me too, but I had an all white Flippac on a quicksand tacoma that I learned to ignore. I hardly ever see the white roof anyway.

If you’ve got solar panels in mind, they’ll cover most of it anyway. I have an idea for solar film on the outside for some protection and darkening (I have seen the glass mat material delaminate and degrade in only a few years) and insulation on the inside. With the tent vents and an eventual fan, I’m not worried about the inside roof being insulated and collecting moisture.

The only other cutting I’ll be doing is the cutout for a roof fan. My main focus is equalizing the temp inside the X-1 when it’s closed up during the day. My stats are showing it holds the same 20-30° F above outside temps. I have an intake filter idea down in the bed, I know I’ll have to run power up which is no problem, and I know I’ll have to cut down the two movable panels plus a hole in the roof. Still undecided on a make/model for the fan.

I'd dig a black logo plate but I bet they are only making one. I might just go for the sticker if that's still an option. My truck is all black, not sure if I want a splash of blue on it.

As for the top being too bright during the day that's great news because I plan to cover half of it with solar (two 100w panels lined up down the middle). Hopefully it will balance out nicely. I don't know that bright during the day would matter to me that much though. I won't be up there ever during the day. If a nap up there is happening it will likely be a rainy day.

I was thinking of just grabbing some Plastidip and making it black like the rest. Easy looks good and can remove it later but I was thinking the same thing. The black sticker was looking good haha.

I’ll have 2 100 watt as well but I know the white will bug me. Maybe grey to go with the tent. Area BFE tents started to do custom wraps on the tops of their tents prob for the same reason.

Just get the blue! It looks pretty sharp. And ties in with the blue ano release levers for the tent. And most importantly makes it easy for GFC owners to tell that you're in a superior product when they see you on the road. Or when GFC mistakenly posts a Switchback on the IG feed lol.

I've been busy measuring, planning and ordering stuff. Ordered T-nutz recently. I put my base plate in the bed to help with measurements and it doesn't fit now, WTF? Either my truck bed shrank or the two pieces expanded. I put them in when I originally cut them and they fit perfectly. Now they overlapped by 9-10mm. Cut the excess off and they fit perfectly again.

Ordered accuride fridge slides which came yesterday. I was on the fence about this but figured I'd try them, and could sell if I didn't like the fit. Well, I paid more than I wanted for what I thought was a pair and a single side showed up. WTF? Will be sending it back, and just try without the slide first.

Awning should show up tomorrow. Just need to finish researching and order battery/solar/etc. Appointment with Deaver on 4/13.

Nice I was waiting until I got the X1 to order my deavers. What size t nuts or bolts work with the x1? I realized the ones I have likely won’t fit

I'm planning on using my SP as a portable workspace, and I've been thinking of using the bed platform as a standing desk. This all depends on height, of course, so could one of you lucky owners give me the measurement from the bottom of the shell (where it meets the bedrail) and the top of the bed platform? (I'll measure from my rails to my bed, as I may add a base plate).

If it's the right height, I'm home free. If not, I'm thinking of fashioning something that will attach to the slots or the bolts in the shell interior. Possibly something that I could raise and lower if I choose to alternate standing and sitting, like those spring-loaded desktop risers out there.

Also, if the bed platform is the right height, I'm thinking of cutting the rear section of the platform in half so that I have more standing room. Right now when the rear bed platform is deployed I'll only have 20 inches of standing room. Cutting it in half will get me more, but I'm not sure how much more, so could somebody give me the dimensions of the removable rear portion of the bed platform? (This is for a 6 foot bed on a Tacoma.)

    Thanks.

If you aren't worried about a little extra height you can't go wrong with a Maxxair 6000. It is intake/exhaust, variable speed (like 10 speeds), has the pop up cover where you can run it in the rain, etc. etc.

I've installed a bunch of these. Had 2 on my last Transit camper van, have one now in my work truck. I leave it running on low with a window cracked any time it's hot out. Uses virtually no power. Oh, you can get a smoke cover too, not white but I think the base around it is white because they are basically made for RV roofs. You can Plasti dip the base though. I did that once.

I still may put one in my SP but first I'm going to try this little guy my wife got me. It's an impressive little fan:
