Hey team - I’ve been completely abandoned by Toyota and need advice. Thank you all in advance!

I bought a 2019 Tacoma Sr5 DCSB brand new in may 2019 and the entune Bluetooth calling feature stopped working about 3 months in. Whenever I’m on the phone, a call drops about 1 minute in. Doesn’t matter if it’s inbound or outbound and It’s not just my phone (iPhone XR) as I’ve tried with multiple other apple devices and none work.

I’ve gone in to service centers for 4 separate visits, and they all could not fix the problem.
Recently it was escalated to Toyota corporate and after two calls with a case manager and her superior they both said there is nothing we can do. They said that because the system works on an android device (but no iPhones) that it’s technically not a defective head unit and is not a breach of warranty. They said I can contact the BBB and review my local lemon laws if I want.

I feel totally cheated on my purchase and if I were to resell the truck, I’d probably take a $5k hit on the resale price for a nonfunctional Bluetooth considering just about everyone has an iPhone.

    What can I do??

TLDR; my entune Bluetooth never worked and Toyota said I’m basically screwed, even though my truck is under warranty.

I know this is probably not the answer you are looking for

But a new aftermarket head unit would be far less expensive than selling the truck at a $5k loss?

BBB is worthless... Hopefully your state has a bureau of automotive repair.

So the real question is does bluetooth work on most other Tacomas same year. If yes Toyota needs to replace the unit simple. If answer was yes then tell Toyota you will be filing a NTSB case and doing this in a set time like 10 days and if they want you to not file this they need to replace your unit. If all Tacomas have intermittent bluetooth then file away and make Toyota response and have to fix everyones. You have to accept they are a large corporation and the bottom cost is all that matters and accept this problem as a challenge and in fact a game to play - then if all fails replace with aftermarket.

It’s possible it’s an apple issue also. I have crapple to and I use bt headphones and also the watch to control my music and books. I work outside so sometimes digging my phone out to check messages or skip songs is a pita. The last couple of months I have had constant connectivity problems so your problem may not be your truck.

So the head unit isn't working for a phone that isn't supported? Or is it not working at all?

My wife and I both have iPhones. Zero problems using bluetooth to connect to the truck to talk on the phone. Zero problems with her 2014 Limited, or the 2017 Limited I had, or 2019 Pro I have. We've used the iPhone X and now 12.

Good thing that your phone isn't also your vehicle key.

    Stock, 4WD, Access Cab, White,
FWIW. Not everyone has Apple phones.

Frankly, I'd either change to an Android platform or replace the HU with an aftermarket.

Be aware. Apple is known for quirks in their op systems that limit functionality.

Toyota regularly updates the software on their head units for this type of issue. I'd frequently check with your dealer. It's frustrating and something Toyota has struggled with for the last few years.

    Interesting article re: market share-
    https://www.mobileapps.com/blog/android-vs-ios-market-share

Globally, Android dominates with almost 72% of the market, and rising.
In the US, iPhone leads but it's only a 60%-40% split.
