SD/USB, hard drive, it's all the same difference. The former has the advantage of no moving head, and I doubt you'd really want to waste the money on an SSD.

Main point here was that the included music player sucks.

I have never gotten the stock music player to read much. When it does work, there was no searching, and I could only go in order or tracks that were on the drive.
I switched to youtube music (I pay for youtube premium) and its great, everytime I get home the headunit auto downloads fresh music that matches what I normally listen to.

YTM I've had mixed luck with thus far. It will come off your playlist for suggested music (which, no - I have Pandora for that), and for local music it won't take the metadata.

Google Play Music was just fine...
I can't for the life of me understand why they would ditch it for YTM. Library navigation is awful, search is awful...
I get Apple Music free from Verizon so I run that. Interface isn't great, but it works.

I want to do a sanity check... has anyone seen a command in the "factory settings" window that would affect the LED DRL's? I feel like the Entune headunit might have that ability and therefore this has some similar command. My DRL's will not come on when the "DRL" knob is turned, but will power on with the parking lights. All fuses appear to be ok and it makes me think I messed around with the "factory settings" screen... will investigate further

There is a option in the entune to set the brightness of the DRL, I dont remember if there is in the joying radio though, but it should be there somewhere.

Good suggestion, I saw that in another thread as well. Don't believe that to be the issue, but will double check.

Joying did not have a headlight/DRL setting that I could find.

Has anyone gotten a software update that allows for google voice calling to work? Also to be able to hide the bluetooth pop-up while in a phone call, kinda makes it impossible to interact with google maps while on a call.

There is a modified software floating around if you wanna root it, with a couple workarounds but I read joying was supposed to release a fix so rather use the official firmware if possible.

Also wondering if it's possible to use the oem mic/gps antenna, I saw a couple adapters but it was a while back and can't find them..

I recommend everyone to use youtube vanced btw, a hacked youtube with no ads.

I also have a modified netflix Apk if anyone wants to use it, it's the only one that has worked in this HU:D

There is a gps adapter. I think its this one
    https://car-solutions.com/en/adapter-for-oem-gps-antenna-connection-in-toyota-lexus-subaru-mazda/

As for the oem mic, there is no good way to use it. The oem mic is amped, so it doesnt work with aftermarket stuff. But what you can do it pull it out, remove the internals and glue in the joying mic. Then just put it all back together again.

So I loaded all my music on a flash drive, and used Muzio Player to scan. Took forever, but everything scanned and I was fairly happy. Then next time I got in the truck, no music. Apparently the app has to scan each time it powers off, which is of no use to me. Going to give it one more opportunity, but I need to likely find a replacement. Unfortunately YT music will only look at internal storage and I don't see a way to change that.

The search continues. If Android could interpret iPod file structure, this would all be a moot point. I'd throw an SSD in my iPod Classic, and it'd be golden.

Not sure if its a option because I have not tried, but there was a option in android awhile back that integrates external drives into the internal storage pool. Its not 100% perfect, but it might do what you need.

Hey fellas. I finally pulled the trigger after reading this entire thread. I ordered and installed the latest and greatest Joying Android head unit. I paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $320 with free shipping on aliexpress. I must say this is a huge upgrade from the factory hu. Amazing visual and sound. Anyone still on the fence should just do it! Everything is pretty much plug n play. The wiring is pretty straight forward. You need help to mess this up. Everything is working like it should backup camera, GPS, android auto, steering wheel controls, etc. I'm still tinkering with it so that's about all I have to say for it for now.

Nice, looks they updated the zlink app too. I might have to look into upgrading mine, I have the 1st gen of this headunit from pretty much when it first came out. I would be interested to see if the new version has better sound quality than the 1st gen.

How do you know what version you have? I just purchased this one for my 2018 Tacoma (NON JBL):

Hey guys I have an extra adapter to hook up your factory gps antenna instead of using the gps antenna that comes with the unit. I ordered two by accident. If anyone is interested please dm me. IMG_20210329_185318.jpg

10-4. Were you ever able to resolve the temperature units issue?

While they never were much of a issue because the cpu would throttle its self down when it got hot, I did put heatsinks on there and it does seem to keep the temps down a bit. If you want to put in heatsinks, I got 40mm heatsinks with heat tape to install on my cpu (2 required) I have not looked at the new cpu so I am not 100% sure that those heat sinks will fit the new models.
