Finally went to dealership for programming the key....They tried to sell me a new key by saying that they never had any luck with the Amazon keys. I persisted and they agreed to try...for $70 programming fee. We agreed that if they cannot program my Amazon keys then I would buy a new one and not have to pay for another programming fee.

I stayed near by - they would not let me into the shop area, but I spoke to the tech as he was getting my truck and then positioned myself so that I could watch him. Don't know if that had any influence, but they programmed both keys of my new Amazon keys. I tested both before leaving.

I went to a independent key shop and bought a "G" key for $40 then paid them $50 to program it.

I bought a "G" flip-key and Techstream setup. Got the key (code) cut at local dealer for free, used Techstream to program the ECU for the new "G" chip in about 10 minutes, and programmed the FOB using these instructions. (While I had Techstream connected, I also disabled the seat belt chime.)

    How to use device...
Many instructions online talk about beeps...DONT worry about that.. LOOK at your immobilizer light(center console)

I just got this to work on my '05 Tacoma - had 2 keys, wanted a 3rd. For me, the light didn't act like it says in the instructions posted, but the OBDII device did beep 3 times, then stopped, so I proceeded with the instructions and inserted the new key. It programmed immediately! Very pleased!

The real challenge now is the 2001 Avalon... this keymaker doesn't work for it, tried anyway to no avail.

I know, old thread, but felt a new one wasn't needed.

I bought two sets of blanks, 2 keyless entry fobs and the ODB2 tool of ebay.

Got all excited and wasn't thinking and inserted the tool and my valet key (all I have) then realized I am an idiot and just have uncut blanks. So ended the program and did the whole 5 key on/off thing.

My valet key still works thank goodness, but now the security light stays solid on when car is off and stays blinking when the car is started?

    How can I fix this?

    Thanks

I have no idea with that interesting problem, but I would turn car off, wait a couple minutes, then disconnect the negative battery terminal, wait a couple more and reconnect it to see if that resets it.

THIS is the trick to making this work. I've used this device to program keys in three Tacomas, all pre-2008, and it worked like a charm. Watch the immobilizer light, do not listen for beeps.

Put in an uncut blank and pulled it out. Everything back to normal. lt must be a three key program thing.

Paid for two blanks to get cut at Lowes. Cut was not perfect match to the OG, but works and starts. Programmed all three today without issue.

Got two spares, two keyless entry, and the ODB2 for $50. Not bad in my book.

If you're using keys that aren't cut right, that's really hard on the locks. You're forcing the lock to turn when the wafers aren't lined up perfectly. That's why you should go to a locksmith and not Walmart or a hardware store.

    Locksmiths wouldn't return my calls.

The keys work fine, just not cut exactly the same as the original, most likely due to the natural wearing down. It all works fine.

This worked great!!!!!! The ECU programed to 2 new OEM master keys just as advertised without having a working chip key. The only key I had was an Ace hardware clone that stopped working.

My key has a "L" on it. Easiest ever to program.
