I drilled small holes all around the edge of the pencil tray and poked small holes through the boot and took wire and fastened through the holes. It’s tight doesn’t move and gap away from the pencil tray.

So, I reached out to http://rocksolidtoys.com, asked about the transfer-case mod and crawlbox. Then a few days later, the website went dark :(

Yup, I almost lost around $1300 to them but fortunately used a credit card and was able to cancel the charge for non-shipment of over-priced and un-needed parts.

@volte, ask you questions here. Tons of people have done the swap without RST and can help you out. I've done it on my 4th gen 4Runner and will be adding one to my daughter's 2013 prerunner when I 4WD swap it.

Oof. Thanks for the info. Makes sense, and really shitty. I read a bit of the post—sounded like maybe a fallen angel? They'd done good work in the past?

Sorry to hear about the struggles man, but glad you didn't lose out too much on it.

Honestly I have so many dang projects on my list (not just counting the laundry-list on the truck itself), I was kinda hoping to pay someone to do this, since it seemed to touch pretty crucial components. That being said, I have found out over the years so far that things seem to be a bit less complicated than they seem at first. There are in fact a lot of moving parts (literally), but once you start understanding each one, they start to make more sense (I'm still bewildered with how crammed and complex the engine bay looks. You'd think with "modern technology" they'd have found a way to stream line that, but I'm coming from the tech world on that, and this is probably why/how Teslas exist haha).

I'll take some time to read through this thread—I hate contributing to the fracturing of information so I'll refrain from posting my own questions for now. I will ask this, however—is there a detailed tutorial/write up on doing this surgery oneself? (Disclaimer, I haven't read through the whole thread yet haha)

Since you're an MT, you'll need to swap input shafts. I need to do this as well. Other than that, pretty much every question is answered in this thread and will give you a greater understanding of what all is involved. It's intimidating at first but once you soak in the info, it's not so bad.

I wrote up the highlights and took a bunch of pics of my crawlbox / FJ install in my build thread that might be helpful as well. Feel free to PM me with questions. I am local to you in Colorado and would be willing to assist when you're ready to tackle the FJ case. You're also welcome to borrow the input out of my old 6sp tcase if you wanted to save some down time by prepping the FJ case ahead of time.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...l-and-b-s-thread.356319/page-23#post-21535330

The crawlbox thread has a ton of great information to weed through as well. You don't have to swap inputs on the FJ case if you're doing the crawlbox with it, but you have some other challenges to overcome there, such as actually finding a crawlbox to install. We won't clog this thread up with all that chatter, though.

New shift knob in to match the pattern on my transmission knob. It’s a little larger than I expected but still not too big. it also highlights just how dirty my transmission knob is. I need to get in there with a toothpick and clean it out.

Weird, it’s like soap and hot water was designed to clean things. much better.

Anyone talked to Front Range Off-road lately? I need to get my twin sticks ordered (their website says unavailable) and I don’t really want the trail gear ones.

If you are desperate for a Front Range twin stick, I never used mine for the swap. Brand new still, just needs a new shifter boot since I used part of that for my swap.

If they don't want to borrow the input shaft can I? Need to do my twin sticks but the downtime has certainly been one of the reasons the case has just been sitting on my workbench.

    :pout:

And by borrow I assume this means I install yours in my FJ case do the mods and attach the twin shifters then when I install the case in the truck I send you back my original Tacoma manual input shaft yeah?

    Sad neglected FJ case noises.

Yep, that's exactally what I meant. As long as I get back a good 6sp planetary gearset in a reasonable period of time, you're welcome to borrow mine. Sent you a PM.
