I have to go to a wedding in Destin, FL mid May so why not drive, take a few days and camp along the way. Only been to N.O. so figure why not have some fun with it. Any parks to stay at, cool sights, restaurants or anything else to check out on the way?

I just did this drive like 4 Fridays ago. One day round trip just a lot of driving.

There’s some pretty cool sights along the way on I-10. Batton Rouge and Mobile are cool in their historical districts. If you are interested in seeing ships being built Mobile again...

Thanks, Yeah Planning to break it up 3 days to and 3 days coming back. Honestly up for whatever. Historic spots are always high on the list for me.

Sounds like perhaps USS Kidd (Baton Rouge, LA) and USS Alabama (Mobile, AL) may be worth checking out.

EDIT: also consider Elgin AFB/Pensacola, FL
Of course, the D-Day in New Orleans is top notch.
Each respective town has historical districts as well as other smaller museums and stores of interest.

EDIT2: Fontainebleau State Park in the stretch between Baton Rouge and Slidell is pretty nice, as well as the Al State park at Gulf Shores/Orange Beach.

    Bunch of Basic Taco mods.
Second Fountainbleau, but some of the campsites are pretty swampy if it rained recently. I live about fifteen minutes from there.

Bucaneer State Park is by Waveland, MS if you decide to stop on that side.

You couldn’t pay me to go to Nee Orleans these days.

    Lamberts cafe.

I was told by my sister in law that this is a place to go especially if traveling through.

Foley is a bit of diversion from I-10, but if you do... there is an outlet center (Tanger) there. For that matter, there is one in Gulfport too (not sure if Tanger).

Where are y'all planning on staying in FL? Just a little past Destin is a strip of highway called 40A. Worth a look for future vacations. We rent a small house in Seaside every couple of years for 4 days or so and it's cost effective vs the touristy traps in Destin area. Beaches are cleaner, too. There are some swamp tours along the i12 corridor near Madisonville, LA that my kids have taken field trips to. Looks pretty cool if you've never encountered such as that. The last time they went my wife went also and there was a pack of wild pigs near the water's edge and they pulled the boat over to watch. Then a gator appeared and snatched a piglet and took it under all squealing and bloody. Wife said it traumatized a few kids and some of the others were loving it. New Orleans has loads of historic district to explore. The French Market and French Quarters. Visit Cafe du Monde if you go. Along with as the WWII museum there is a Confederate Museum, too. Confederate Memorial Hall Museum – Oldest Museum in Louisiana (confederatemuseum.com) If you have kids the Audubon Zoo is second to none along with their aquarium and insectarium if they're open. There's also a strange zoo a little west of Destin. Feels like you get a little too close to the bigger animals at some spots. https://www.gbzoo.com There is a Buc-Ee's just past the Mobile Bay bridge now and an announcement was made they will open one somewhere near Gulfport soon.

Interesting to hear, my daughter/bf occasionally make long trips to buc-ees to tide them over when not in the summer months.
