My A/C light is blinking. A/C not working/making noise. Took it into the dealer - they say I need a new compressor and clutch. Not ready to spend the $1250+tax.

In the meantime, is there a way to disconnect the power to the A/C unit and stop the light from flashing? Can I pull a fuse or relay? Should I pull the magnetic control relay?

Your compressor cycles when you hit the defrost button as well .

I pulled the fuse , the relay and removed the clutch . The light on the dash still blinks but with the clutch removed , there is no chance of ripping your serpentine belt to shreds

To any that it may help, I would have the blinking AC light and warm air blowing when I would do water crossings and puddle jumping after replacing my belt tensioner I no longer have this issue.

I think the light flashing is just a general fault indicator and not a specific issue.

I.E. in my instance the belt didn't have enough tension and with water it was slipping on the clutch replacing the tension tightened the belt and no more clutch pulley slip.

Just shopping for parts now . The compressor seized solid on the highway so I am hoping zero carnage hit the evaporator . Apparently its a bitch to change out . I am hoping a flush will do it

Here is the Tacoma AC mod to turn off the compressor when using defrost . I highly suggest doing this mod . In a nut shell , this dam compressor runs all winter as well .
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/a-c-on-with-defrost.7160/

Here is the fix thread for when your AC clutch blows apart . Its a great thread as well.https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-light-squealing.448009/page-16#post-26076435

The delphi compressor I found is over 500 bucks up here is Canada . According to a few members here at Tacoma world , the delphi is junk so I am looking at other brands before I pull the pin.

Here is a guy who changed out a compressor on youtube. After watching the video , I need to order more new seals .
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcTNHahQItc
There are many companies that sell the compressor now . Its difficult to know which one is better quality .
    https://www.amazon.ca/FJC-2484-PAG-...AX7HPQJDG7W&psc=1&refRID=7C7JPDAR0AX7HPQJDG7W
Do I really need the pag oil ?
I will take opinions if anyone has anything to offer. The AC is busted now , so I have all kinds of time to fix it

Here is my grocery list so far

Going to press in new bearings at all my idlers and probably a fresh water pump as well . I am at 170K or 105,000 miles now
Does anyone know where I can get the bearing numbers for the idlers ? Bearings are cheap . Idlers are 60 bucks plus shipping

    Hey .
    Taco'09
I am just getting around to fixing my AC now .
I am sick of driving at 60mph with the windows down .
What are the chances you know the part numbers for those GM in line filters ? I would like to grab some for this project .

The OEM Delphi/Toyota filter on the line from the condenser to the evaporator at the inlet of the expansion valve, or the aftermarket microscreens that fit on the AC compressor itself at its attached manifold?

IMO @CurtB would be the go to guy for advice on A/C related issues.

    Hopefully he will offer up.

My A/C light will randomly blink (and get no cold air) like once in a blue moon. 99.9% of the time it works flawlessly and then randomly it'll blink. I'll cycle the A/C button and it usually starts right back up. I have replaced the relay already with a OEM relay from previously reading about this issue, same symptoms. Over my years of observation it happens more during super hot/humid days here in San Diego as opposed to colder/drier days. Maybe some connection is jiggling loose randomly?

Have your pressures checked, it's possible you have too little or too much freon and during the really hot days part of your system is icing over by the time you realize it's no longer blowing as cold air the AC compressor has been off long enough to allow the problem to alleviate itself in the lines.

Good idea. I don't like driving around knowing 'something' isn't right... and hopefully i'm not damaging anything long term.

    Yes sir and thank you

The aftermarket micro screens that fit on the AC compressor . I would like to protect the system as much as possible when I have everything apart .
    Sorry for the questions .
I use to farm this work out to a buddy at another shop , so this AC work is all new for me .
Assuming these are what you are talking about ?

    @gearcruncher

    Santech
makes a product called Compressor Guard. Even though they recommend placing thise on the suction side (low press inlet side) I put them on both the suction side and outlet side of the compressor on my first Taco.

The funny thing is that it has been more than 10 years since I did this but sort of remember two different pipe sizes at the compressor manifold, hence two different part numbers, but when all was said and done I think I was able to use a single part number and make it fit. I remember obtaining several different sizes of these before doing the work and I likely obtained part numbers MT1557, MT1558, and MT1559, but may have ended up using only MT1558 on both ports. Anyway, I still have some MT1558 in my parts collection.

Here is their catalog page with a list of all sizes on the table down the page:
    LIT-0156 Compressor Guard-Email.pdf

I got mine at an Autozone store at the time and see they are still available:

if light blinks/AC only works on high fan then its the blower motor resistor. Pull that out from under passenger side glove box area, and check for burn marks. If that is there, replace it, and you should have AC again.

Just skimmed through. To anyone curious, the flashing AC light is just the systems way of saying "compressor speed doesn't match engine speed" (when the mag clutch is getting a command to run).

Look for a slipping belt, fried clutch, etc..

Low freon level won't make the light blink, neither will a blower resistor problem

@gearcruncher get a couple of these flush kits from OReilly if you're worried about debris in the lines. It's not perfect, it won't clean out a clogged evaporator or condenser but it can help clear out lines pretty good

So I’m experiencing a similar issue. Blinking AC light but this didn’t happen until after I changed out my blower assembly. I went to auto one and bought a new relay and no dice. Any info/ideas would be great. TYA

Check for power right at the mag clutch with the AC turned on. Check all fuses
