    $60 a QUART!?

That's highway robbery, I thought Amsoil was expensive.

I mean I would run OEM or that other oil someone mentioned that meets the same spec if it was cheaper but holy cow I thought the 3rd gens had basically the same transfer case as the 2nds which is basically the same as the 1st which is hardly any different from the...

Just wow, guess it's good you only need like 2 quarts.

Toyota's got y'all 3's by the shorts ones eh?

Might actually be worth sending to Blackstone for analysis to find something similar.

I don't worry much about the gear oil for the differentials, but from what i've heard, and seen of these gen3 tacos...beware of what you use in the transfer case, and automatic transmission.

    It takes 1 quart exactly.
I'm not happy with the price but if you consider how often you change it verses the cost of the truck I don't feel it really is that much money for the piece of mind.

The manual transmission calls for a 75W-90 gear oil (common viscosity) -- but in a GL-4 grade (easy to get but not on most store shelves), this is an important specification. No oil with a GL-5 rating is correct. Again, most folks overlook or don't understand the reason for the specification.

Yeah another vote to change it. I like RP products but I don’t think syncromax meets the OEM specs for your transfer case. That stuff is mainly meant for manual transmissions. Probably yellow metal safe.

    The VOAs have been done...
You can find similar stuff as far as viscosity; it's the additive package that's missing. It's measured in thousandths of ppm; Ravenol, for example is measured in hundredths of ppm.
Granted, LF is a highly fortified mineral whereas equivalents are usually group 3+ or 4 synthetic. This may make additive comparisons a wash.
    Point is...there's nothing like LF.

ETA: I've heard the claim that Redline PSF is the closest thing you can get...on paper.

It's cause the sulfur content in the GL5 spec likes brass synchros a little too much.

But diffs and transfer cases don't have parts like that.

I run gl4 in my transfer also due to paranoia of fluid cross contamination between the mated cases.

This is absolutely correct. Most GL-5 oils are not compatible as they cause premature wear to the soft, yellow metals. Funny enough RP advertises that their GL-5 gear oil is yellow metal safe.

The Syncromax is recommended for manual transmissions that call for an automatic transmission fluid, it carries no GL rating so not for use in a manual transmission that calls for a gear oil.
