I’m close to receiving my new bumper so I need to decide on my winch

originally I was dead set on the x20 synthetic because the price difference was too much

lately the x20’prices are pretty much set, Black Friday didn’t really offer much of a deal

I have tracked down the warn evo for $80 more than the smitty. A large discount over msrp. So now I’m going back and forth if I should pay the extra $80 to jump up to the warn evo.

    any thoughts ?

Just installed a WARN Evo for a TW member. Really nice winch! I'd go with WARN over smitty.

I waffled back and forth as well.

In the end I went with a VR10 simply because of Warn pretty much being the "industry benchmark." I also like the fact that Warn pretty much only makes winches (and hubs). No roof top tents, lights, seat covers, bumpers, etc....

Of course that doesn't mean smittybilt makes crap products, but it's hard to imagine that any one of their many products is a focus of theirs. It's a "jack of all trades, master of none" sort of thing.

Looking to see if OP bought one, and winch one he bought? lol. I am in the same boat. Leaning heavy towards Evo 10 though.

I have never heard anything bad about the Smitty Winches but Warn is Warn. It just works when you need it to which is the name of the game with a winch. I use my VR Evo10-S pretty frequently and it never lets me down.

I live in Texas so won't have to worry about much rust. With that being said, would you advise going synthetic or steel? I know weight plays a factor and there is pros and cons to each.

I run synthetic. I have yet to have a rubbing issue, an issue picking up too many cacti, or the line breaking. Just make sure the line and size are up to the task. I hate steel cable. I get why people use it and it definitely has some advantages, but even just pulling it out to hook up is a chore that I'm not interested in messing with anymore. Synth line is light, strong, flexible, etc.

+1 for synthetic, there's quite a few affordable options now. Also, look into a couple soft shackles, as well, good stuff.

That really depends. For me, the pros of steel outweighed any perceived cons. I hate it when people say synthetic is "safer". Synth is just as unsafe when it's not used properly. Just don't be dumb and both are equally safe.

I went steel because I didn't care that much about weight, don't want to worry about it dragging on the ground. Synth line breaks down over time and needs to be replaced every few (5ish maybe?) years. Steel will outlast my truck.

You've already heard from people who swung towards synth line, so this is just my perspective. Make your own choice.

I went with Steel before even asking, just wanted to see what everyone said lol. I picked up a Evo 10 with steel line this weekend. BAMF hybrid bumper should be in around June time, now i just need a 30" light bar and a couple pods to complete the bumper set up. hoping to get my lift put on in a couple to few weeks. Very excited.

Another vote for the Warn. I just picked up the 10-S at AutoZone.
