I put my 9-3' in the bed and gently strap it down over the tailgate. I have a 6 ft bed though, if you have a short bed I'd look into a roof rack

In the short term, some pool noodles on the roof and some long straps through the windows and cab will get you a short drive to the beach

As far as newbie advice goes.. stay out of the way of locals and more experienced surfers, watch the lineup from the beach and make sure you are confident you can keep yourself and others out of danger before you paddle out. Remember, just because you see other people surfing a spot doesn't mean that spot is a good fit for you. Stick to beach breaks and spots where there are beginners and instruction classes going on

    Good luck and have fun

yeah we have a short bed, so guess it means roof rack.

Thanks for the advice, I’m a scuba instructor so pretty used to reading the ocean (albeit for a very different use case lol). Just need to learn to adjust for surfing.

BTW any SoCal area people willing to help out a newb, cases of beer and/or lunches if you wouldn’t mind showing me the surfing etiquette for the area.

Sounds like you're already comfortable in the water then.. watch some youtube videos about surf etiquette. Take the fin out of the board (if possible) and practice popping up in the living room.

My Avasin quiver when they were new(ish). Usually ride Sharp Eyes. Specifically the Holy Toledo model.
(It’s really hard to find pictures of boards in the back of the truck so I had to screen shot from edits haha)

Just like clockwork, as soon as the snow starts to wrap up in the mountains the weather gets nice at the coast. Heading down tomorrow morning before work, should be some nice offshore and shoulder high surf

Just wanted to pass this link along for anyone with alum extrusion style roof racks that they might use to strap boards to...https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VJYY5GM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8

Some adhesive backed foam padding that I have used the last 6 months and has held up great. no issues at, provides enough protection for boards when strapping down for those who don't use board bags like myself.

This snap in option, actually worked well too, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0792FKPCV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8 it was just slightly less forgiving/soft than the adhesive back foam strip.

Nice idea. I just use pads myself. But this would definitely work!

Sad day. Having a groveler made by Chilli surfboards. Need to pick up another long board while I’m waiting for that

I have a 51L 6’4” groveler and the volume in little waves is unreal. You’re gonna love it

Have you seen how expensive racks are these days?? Much easier to “fold up” the board in the back of the truck
