    Hello all,

I'm looking for assistance aka-help!! Could someone suggest speaker upgrade for our 2020 TRD Off Road 2WD Non JBL Stereo.
I've watched many video's DIY and they all suggest different speakers. I'm looking to add Mat 66 sound deadening in all four doors. I'm hearing Kicker Subaru drop in for tweeters. I'm looking to buy all 4 speakers and 2 tweeters for our Gen 3.

I have been to 4 audio specialty stores plus Audio Express, Crutchfield and Best Buy, they all recommend different speakers, some do not match up from what I'm reading. Components and 3ways are back and forth from different sales people, they seem to contradict each other at times. What brand and model number would be best. I'm uncomfortable adding sub, just looking to keep it simple.

I'm leaning towards Kickers, the model numbers I have shopped for are out of date or not available.

I value your opinions, thank you all in advance.

No problem my friend, lots of good info in those Threads. I used the Subaru Tweeters and Kicker Door Speakers along with sound deadening in the doors and the truck sounds great for such a small investment.

Hello shakerhood, I took your advice. Thank you! I had searched for information previously here but missed what you sent. Today I ordered the OEM Kicker Subaru Tweeters. If anyone else is looking to order those be sure they are OEM, a lot of miss leading sellers on Ebay stating original style or replacement for OEM. The copies look very similar but do not carry the Kicker logo!
I also ordered front speakers "Kicker 46CSC6934" and rear speakers "Kicker 46CSC674". I'm posting this because the part numbers of Kicker line up have been updated with some improvements. I ended up speaking to Dywane at Crutchfield, very easy going with loads of important speaker facts. I have no knowledge of stereo equipment so this was refreshing receiving assistance from shakerhood and all the posts he sent me. Really appreciate T/W Forum and members! We are just looking for something better than stock speakers, this should do it :).

Those Subaru Tweeters have another benefit besides improved sound, they simply plug right in with no modifications.

Do not waste your money replacing the rear door speakers. There is very little improvement to be gained with swapping out the rear speakers. Lots of threads about this.

Yeah, don’t change the rear door speakers if you’re not getting a new amp. The factory amp and settings will not power the rear doors properly. Complete waste of time and money... ask me how I know. Lol

Hello MannyS and Hofmann's Tacos! Appreciate the words of advice. I have rears on order, paid for. Once I sound deaden doors I hope it does help a little. I'll be sure and give a fair review once installed and tested.

It doesn’t help, I have sound deadening too lol. For some reason the factory head unit /amp combo refuses to send adequate power to the rear speakers.

Consider getting a new amp if you want to keep the rear speakers, otherwise don’t open them and return them immediately! Crutchfield makes it easy.

I’m getting a sub and a 5 channel amp, so I kept my new rear speakers in.

Hofmann’s Tacos, appreciate the advice. Not sure how it will play out. I may end up with amp if needed, something I am trying to avoid. What about a new head unit, many sales people wanted me to go that direction. I figured it was for more sales, I'm at a loss when it comes to audio anything.

You could get a new head unit but it’s not necessary, just the amp if you wanna hear the rears. I read somewhere that it’s only an issues with the newer (18+ or 19+) tacomas since Toyota decided to neuter the head unit since people were blowing their rear speakers.

Honestly you will probably enjoy the upgraded tweeters and front speakers enough not to want anything else. Im only upgrading my amp and getting a sub because I like to blast music really loud.

I’m 99% positive you don’t need an amp, and you need to return the rear speakers and spend the money elsewhere (OVTune, tires, lighting, or your IRA...)

If you really feel the need to do the rears then go ahead, but I’m trying to save your money for you

Copy that! Appreciate all the advice, like I said. It's all news to me.. I'm old and I believe your giving good solid advice. Defiantly will be needing tires as the stock ones have 29K on them. By the time they need replaced I will be set if I don't spend it on other mods :). I watch Rob Motive, he always has something interesting to mod on his Voodoo Blue Tacoma.

Hello Mokanic, thanks for much needed clarification on sound deadening. Appreciate you sharing your experience on this subject. I'm waiting for packages to arrive, then I get started. Looking forward to the challenge of not destroying anything while installing this mod. Take care and thanks again!

Hello kahanabob, I ordered same speakers from Crutchfield, enjoyed dealing with them. I was bummed they do not offer Kicker tweeters! I ordered tweeters from eBay, should arrive by 26th. Have you installed tweeters, if so I hope they make a world of difference. I'm surprised at the tweeter cost, they appear very small compared to less priced full size speakers.

tweeters, would not say a world of difference but there is a difference.
one tip when installing the tweeters, the wiring harness attached to the tweeter in the dash only allows the tweeter to pull out about 2 or3 inches. when you pull the harness plug off the old tweeter keep hold of the harness end and have the new tweeter within reach and attach it. if you let go of the wire harness in the dash and it falls down good luck fishing it back out.

Get high efficiency speakers 90db+, the stock amp does not put out a lot of power.
