Hello All, I purchased this 2010 4Runner last summer during covid after selling my 2010 infinity g37x. Previous cars include a 2013 Scion FRS and a 2005 Toyota Matrix. It took a bit to find one in good condition within budget but here we are.

The plan for this is a capable weekend warrior, building into longer trips. No daily duties as I have a work vehicle.

    IMG_4092.jpg
    Purchased July 2020
Came with a Pro Comp 3" front, 2" rear spacer lift and new 285/70/17 falken wild peaks

First mod was the ARB diff breather, ended up running this all the way up to the engine bay with no pictures. I also put on a smaller antenna up front

Shortly after I started removing skid plates and wire wheeling the area's of the frame and underbody where surface rust had started. Finished with some prep and layering some POR-15 on. This process continues in small parts almost anytime I'm under a new area of the 4R.

IMG_1898.HEIC.jpg Took advantage of the nice afternoon and our Lab/mastiff mix loves the rear window.

Shortly after we went to a local spot to try out 4 low and a couple small water crossings before an upcoming trip.
    IMG_4376.jpg

and our first trip, we quickly learned that we needed rock sliders after a few close encounters and we promptly ordered some from coastal off-road.

This was a weld together kit, luckily my cousin was available and willing. This was a bit of a process but overall worth it. The most difficult part was getting past the KDSS lines on the drivers side.
Also added on a couple Canadian flags up front on the fender.

We scored a sweet deal on a 12v fridge since the plastic was cracked. This made a quick addition to the back, but required adding constant power to the back.IMG_4384.HEIC.jpg
    IMG_4569.jpg
To add constant power I pulled apart the stock power panel in the back and made some additions62009756789__E1F78079-9C2F-4BF2-8FC0-796E196F0303.jpg
This added 2 usb's with the voltage gauge on the bottom left and an always on 12v on the bottom right.

With the new upgrades it was time to hit the trail againIMG_4654.jpgWe had some issues last time with the spare dragging so it went up top this time.IMG_4628.HEIC.jpg
and the sliders got put to work.

Removed the OEM cross bars and rails for...IMG_4793.HEIC.jpgThe frontrunner full length rack. This was one of the most tense installs as it requires drilling 4 holes in the roof, all directly above the side curtain airbags. After lots of measuring it all went smoothly. DSC03208.jpg
And the last trip of 2020

Over the winter I acquired a full size spare and had the 4R undercoated. It also made a 3000 km round trip to the east coast and back.

The big push for the spring was maintenance while waiting for parts to arrive. This consisted of changing out the serpentine belt and all the driveline fluids.

IMG_5563.HEIC.jpg IMG_5616.HEIC.jpg The rear Diff was long overdue, the front diff, transfer case and transmission all looked okay. Note the 4R was up on 4 ramps and level for this.

Over the winter I received a CB as a gift, so it was time to install that.IMG_5662.HEIC.jpg

I have ordered the rotating frontrunner antenna mount, but since that is on an indefinite back order we went custom. IMG_5663.HEIC.jpgIMG_5665.HEIC.jpg This is a 3ft firestick with a medium wilco spring. I managed to get the SWR down to 1.25-1.5.

Finally parts started showing up for the suspension IMG_5624.HEIC.jpg63770656286__F01F6E06-590A-4069-AC8F-6DEF92A0DEA1.HEIC.jpg Timbren active off road bump stops front and back and some UCA's arrived.IMG_5549.HEIC.jpg

After a long 12 weeks have gone by the rest has arrived
    IMG_5690.jpg
OME shocks and springs, I was so excited for this to come in I spent some late nights in the garage after work to get it all in. Now due to the spacer lift installed it was a little more difficult then I was planning for and I ended up needing two different sets of spring compressors. IMG_5692.HEIC.jpg64005538442__6703B161-4D93-4EC4-B014-AF602EAA08D3.HEIC.jpg IMG_5700.HEIC.jpg
I was able to do the full install without messing around with the KDSS, however I do plan on getting some KDSS spacers in the future.IMG_5707.HEIC.jpgAll settled after a week and a fresh alignment.
Next up is some frontrunner accessories. Ended up with some Wolfpack boxes and high lids, and mounts. We also picked up the RTT quick disconnect mounts for our new RTT.IMG_0761.HEIC.jpgIMG_5713.HEIC.jpg

Now only if we could get rolling out, just waiting for the covid restrictions to pass.

Well as things continue to be delayed I'll just keep adding parts. Last year we constantly found ourselves coming into camp late and so it was time for an upgrade. Cali raised pods with side LED's. Very easy install. The wiring harness supplied is way to long, It will need to be trimmed and cleaned up later on. 660796CC-B68F-484D-A2E6-959D77393B7A.jpg90B24D94-ED94-481C-BA76-DC76D0EEE440.jpgF190C8A2-01FE-498D-8A66-CC1380331C90.jpg

I've replaced the front and rear sway bar bushings, the rears were in very poor shape.

While running some errands I had my parking brake seize, This lead to a timely rear brake replacement and I found a pin that had been re-shaped and required replacement. Luckily the parts were all available the following day. It's hard to see but it caused quite a lip inside the rotor.

And with all of this we were able to squeeze in a couple trail runs. The first of the year with the Minden hydro line. We got all the way to the end and one of the Fj's we were with tore apart his front cv leading to some trail repairs as he had a spare

    IMG_2416.jpg
    IMG_2434.jpg

And this past weekend we ran all of Ardbeg south. The camping area was quite full however the trail was quiet as we headed out pretty early. Unfortunately we seemed to be picking up all the garbage the group of atv's infant were dropping down the trail, mainly beverage containers. Luckily no trailer repairs this time.

    IMG_6316.jpg

Hopefully in the coming week's ill have a larger battery as the 5 year old gem replacement is taking a beating with the fridge draw overnight.

Thanks to a marketplace find the AGM battery upgrade was a short pursuit, it also came with the Vgate post adaptors that I made work a little different then their intended method.

I also did the GM diode replacement to bump up the charge voltage.

Once I get the battery tray in I'll have to clean up the wiring a bit and finally shorten the harness for the ditch lights

Recently got some more frontrunner goodies. Added the hi-lift and pivoting antenna mount onto the rack.

After using the hi-lift earlier this year it's nice to keep it mounted outside and now the pivoting antenna mount prevents me from forgetting about it and trying to get into the garage.

And back out for another adventure. This time we attempted green's mountain (lvl 4) after some minor damage, incoming weather and the obstacles ahead we turned back after the slide.

A6626A0A-AFFD-45C2-A767-861CB22FC6B0.jpgThis is long overdue for an update. Ended up doing a full brake inspection after ongoing issues, found a crushed line and multiple seized pistons. Ended up replacing all 4 calipers, rotors and pads.

also had to replace my fog lights so time for an upgrade. 81B8A75C-9581-4CA2-8C87-DBAA99426761.jpg

    And then some winter upgrades
E74766DD-E994-4B83-9BE0-F232DCA0919C.jpg new skid plate, I’ve gone through 3 OEM ones so we will see how this holds up.

I ordered a new bumper from victory off-road in the fall. With the changing border restrictions I was able to go down and pick it up. First I had to do the 14+ face lift
    F6391341-4253-4BD0-8FBB-A43F094F177F.jpg
and it gets cut up right away
    B9903654-4453-4EA3-8BC1-BAA06CB00BC2.jpg
then adding in the bumper with a 20” light bar, re-mounted the fog lights and a 10k warn winch and flip plate mount.

after the weight settled I had to swap out the front springs from 885’s to 887’s and now I’m all set for the new season.

First trip of the year. Headed over to silverlake sand dunes in Michigan. The 4R did surprisingly well considering all the weight. No broken parts and only minor maintenance required with a couple new air filters and a transmission flush after it got a little warm for my liking.
