So it looks like it is time to change out the brakes for the first time since I have owned my 2013 Tacoma. The previous owners left the truck relatively stock and I have been the one that has tinkered with it. I currently have a 3" Toytec lift and running Yokohama Geolander 265/70r16. I am thinking about getting a little more serious with the braking system since I have a chance. I also plan to maybe go up to 33" BFG KO2 in the future.

For the fronts I am looking at EBC Stage 3 Truck and SUV kit with the Geomet coated discs. Nothing super crazy but does anyone have any experience with these on how long they last? Are they worth the extra coinage from the Powerstop Truck & Tow performance kit (roughly $100).

I was considering converting the rears to discs but I don't think the pros are worth it for the price tag so I am thinking of sticking to drums right now. Looks like Powerstop makes an OEM replacement which is what I am thinking about going with.

This truck is my daily and I do some trail driving but I am not bashing this or rock crawling if that makes a difference in people's opinions.

OEM brakes should be fine with just the slightly larger tires. However, if you want to do an 'upgrade' i think people are swapping over the 4runner front brakes onto their Tacomas. There may be a stickied thread, not sure.

I’ve been happy with the EBC green pads and the EBC drilled/slotted rotors. Better stopping power and longer lasting than the OEM from my experience.

What did you do for the rear drums in combination with these? I noticed that EBC does not make drum brakes.

Brembo pads and rotors. Performance and longevity is equal to or better than OEM.

I just went with new oem shoes and springs. Not much you can do back there except convert to discs

Yea I have noticed that. I wanted to switch to discs primarily because I hate working on drum brakes but at this point I won't push my truck hard enough to need them.

Next time my fronts are due, this is my plan. The runner calipers and rotors are bigger and are pretty cheap. They only work with 17" rims though

I might have to do that when I switch to bigger tires and wheels.

I have nothing to contribute to this thread; just wanted to say how refreshing it is to have read every post in it and I didn’t see the word “breaks” once.

I have the same 2013 DCSB. Similar situation, just hit 60k and serviced the brakes for the first time. I'm running on 18s and much heavier than you with some armor upgrades. The OEM brakes were definately starting to fade. I went to the closest dealership and just had them replace OEM rotors and OEM pads. Brake fade resolved, she stops fast and well now, I'm happy. OEM still king for function and cost.

Well placed my order for the EBC Stage 3 kit for now since one of my pads are nonexistent. Found it pretty cheap on Amazon with free shipping. Will post how it looks and performs once it is installed.

One of my pads is nonexistent so I couldn't do this option but I am for sure looking to do this the next time around.

Installed Power Stop K-137-36 truck kit. EZ install and braking improved over OE. At 40K, my OE pads were only half worn. I pull a utility trailer with golf cart weekly, and have fade going down hill (6%) since the truck was new. Fade is gone with the Power Stop kit.
