Is there any consensus on which bulbs are best (or best value for $) for these 2 upgrades? I did some forum searching but did not find any clear answers.

    Thanks in advance

    I use VLED.

There are a lot of brands out there though

Look for @crashnburn80 posts about the Osram bulbs for the back up lights. Not leds, but huge gains in visibility over stock.

This will not be beat for performance and value, reverse lights only:

YES!! I had been looking for this thread and writeup you did - thank you! This kind of stuff is why I love TW... a 27-page thread about the pros/cons of a $18 upgrade that takes < 10min and I'm reading every post like it's an airplane novel. Also, I'm impressed with your patience in answering some of those Q 2-3 times. At the end of your revised OP you mentioned that stock wiring can throttle the performance of these bulbs. Does it make that big a difference? I don't feel like rewiring anything and I expect the output boost will be plenty to suit me.

They would perform even better with a heavier gauge wire, but didn't seem worth the effort and I never did build a harness. I did however later boost the output by using a voltage booster, which achieves a similar affect much more simply (which also increases output of all halogen bulbs). Voltage boosters are needed to correct the charging voltage when running an AGM battery, but should not be used on a standard lead acid battery, as it will overcharge the battery.

One thing to note is the using LED bulbs in the reverse lights often causes reverse camera glare. Though I don't think the reverse cameras were added till 2012.

UPDATE: I got the Osram bulbs recommended in the OG Thread by @crashnburn80, pushed the prongs in the housing together using a precision flathead for a sung fit, and off we go. Couldn't have been more than 15 min from pulling the bulb package from the mail to coming back in the house with the job completed and everything put away. After reading further I decided to leave my license plate bulbs stock. The consensus seems to be that changing them does more harm (glare in reverse camera image) than good (improving visibility when backing up).

    Many thanks to all.

I'm using these same ones(minus the red part) and they've been great. Over a year and still going strong and bright as hell
