The ice floes were awesome. Break up hasn’t really started out here yet.

We were actually able to hit some decent speeds and get some drifting and donuts in.:D

I know im waking up an old thread but ive been digging to find good information on deep snow tires. I only find info on high way snow tires. I drive 12.8 miles on un maintained logging roads/ snowmobile trails to my house im wondering what you guys use your snow tires? Ive been thinking mastercraft mxt as they can be studded an yes ive got tires chains and a winch too. Im currently on 235/85r16 cooper stt pro not great in snow i do like the skinnys though they work well as the road gets groomed and packed down im not trying to float on 4 ft of snow. Thank you

I had good luck with falken wildpeak at3s in 265/75r16 last year the handful of times I was in deeper snow, depending on how deep you're talking going wider and floating might do you better than cutting through with a skinny. Just my 2c

Not to deep just snow under neath not tar.. maybe 6-12" average with some deeper storms or if you accidentally get off the shoulder we drag the road with a pallet and get to it when we groom the sled trails for a section. So it layers in eventually getting 3-4ft total but packing it in. had wider tires an found the 235s to handle way better all around if i planned on playing completely off trail id get some big fat tires and bead locks for that. I run low psi anyway never go higher than 25 even in the summer helps with the gravel bumps im just trying to find the best tires with out talking to people who drive to the mall lol

@rancherrider199 I run Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx in 255/80/17

I love these tires in the snow, all types. As you said airing down is important.

I have run my tires at 5 PSI all day snow wheeling with no problem, the Cooper ST Maxx are designed to be aired down.

You can also stud them, which I recommend BIG TIME if you are driving them as winter tires.

    Studs make ALL the difference.

I hope you all can keep adding to this thread as the pics and info has been great for not only us noobs but for those of us living vicariously though folks that get real snow and have places they're brave enough to enjoy it. So far here in NJ, only snow fall wasn't even enough to keep me and my Charger off the roads (I'm a wannabe truck owner)...

Just some trail clearing about a month ago, for the snow machine groomer. Less work he has to do, fun I get to have.

This is something I need to get, chains.

I have never used or thought of using them. I need to get em, and use them till I master them.

    :hattip:

This will be the next piece of recovery gear I learn how to use properly. :cookiemonster:

Glad this thread was revived. Got stuck on our unplowed dirt driveway this weekend. I was fine going straight and as soon as I hit the turn at the end I got stuck on the slick packed snow below. I spun my tires a bit trying to get free and was probably too hard on the truck.

After being stubborn I got out the shovel, ash bucket and traction boards. Truck made it to the garage.

Traction boards help so much, I am a big big fan of traction boards

This thread often sits dormant all summer, then starts up again each winter season :bananadance:

Side question and please don’t beat me up over being rough on a stuck truck I know now that won’t get me free but

while spinning the wheels a bit and trying in 1st gear (manual trans) to get free I noticed a slight fishy or fish bait like smell. Was that the tires in the snow, tranny, diff?

I did shut the truck off to cool a few minutes while gathering supplies.

Nope sorry never had a fishy smell, but I am an auto.

You aint being hard on it trust me

My poor auto was stalled 3 times in a row from me being a dumb ass, trying to 2 foot gas, brake my way up an icy hill. Just about get to the top and it would come to a halt, then start sliding backwards. 2 footing just does not help at that moment, just stalls it, but I kept doing it....

That was being hard on a truck :fistbump:

That was your clutch burning from not being full engaged while you were giving the tires some spin. It’s a very distinct smell. Your truck should be fine but don’t do that too much or you’ll need a new clutch.

I had a feeling that might be the clutch. My buddies gen1 clutch doesn’t produce the same smell different material probably but that cased my doubt.

    Thanks!
