Aloha, so as I await my KZ Escape HatchE17 - the dealer (who has been great) is saying that this model will not allow for a weight distribution hitch???? I was certainly set on having one installed - but this is the first time someone said that a particular model would not support this - anyone run across this towing a travel trailer????

They are saying they can install a sway back (I think this was a typeo and he meant sway bars?- which will be similar?? I know what sway bars look like - but do those distribute the weight as well?

Are you talking truck or trailer? Trucks certainly do. Could be the dealer just doesn’t install them. Check around.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
A couple terminology clarifications needed. Some WDH( weight distribution hitches) have anti-sway capabilities built in, many don’t. There are also anti-sway or sway control devices. They’re very basic, can be bought around $30.
Yes, many trailer manufacturers caution against WDH on their trailers. My first one, a NuCamp 320 Boondock was one. But a anti-sway device was recommended.
A great site to learn a lot is ETrailer.com. Check out their vids and tutorials.

I tow an rPod 180 without WDH, no problems. That is with an '18 TRD Off Road. I do have an anti sway bar and 500# Sumo springs though. The rPod 180 weighs about 3,500. Not sure of the exact tongue weight, but I did tow it with a Tundra for a few trips with no sway control and had no issues, so the current sway bar is just a precaution.

We bought a 21ft Bullet Crossfire (by Keystone) right before Christmas last year. The dealer recommended a WDH with sway control (Eaz-Lift R3 ?). They set everything up for us. I wonder if the trailer’s tongue length has anything to do with whether or not a WDH can be installed?

weight distribution hitches are Not necessary if tongue / hitch weight is correct

if the tow vehicle & trailer are loaded correctly....................seldom the case !!!!

as the topic of towing persists

iv only read 2 posts whereby the OP actually weighed the total rig ready for vacation

on certified scales there was more there than he knew conversationaly

Iv only read 2 posts whereby brakes were a primary concern.............

I see full sized p/u (4 wheelers ) hauling full sized campers 13ft high 40 feet long & wider than the p/u by 30-40%

best done with a Dually that stiil might be taxed
