Has anyone ever tried something like this for simple ultra-light, easily removable solo use in a mid-height topper (Leer 180)?

Cot (Teton Sports, 25" wide x 72" length) is ~10 lbs and I use a Big Agnes Q Core Deluxe sleeping pad with a R4.2 warmth rating and 4" thick at less than 2lbs with my Marmot 850 down sleeping bag.

Thought I'd throw in a few plastic bins to store things in.

Could cut the legs an inch or two and get the cot lower but then I'd sacrifice storage space underneath for infrequently used items like traction boards, tow strap, tools, pump etc..

So I have maybe 20 lbs of cot, sleeping pad, empty storage bins and sleeping bag
    before other packable necessities.

Yep...that’s about how I roll. You can search for my previous posts with photos. Gotta love simplicity.

that is probably what I will end up doing honestly...easy in/easy out. Easy to store when not in use. All of the "built in" drawers, and bed ideas are great, but almost seem to be too much for me.

I like minimalist approaches, and I can use camping gear I already have.

    Hey guys
Here is my Minimalist/modular sleeping platform
I did a lot of research and could not find a build like what I ended up with.
I wanted it to be very light and wanted to be able to remove it easily.
I love that I can "collapse" it and have extra room,
to be able to hang out on the bed, just in case I run into bad weather
I hope it will help some one :)

Excellent. I love how modular yet simple this is. I only one one side raised platform so this looks perfect

Really unique idea.. .but how do you keep the sleeping frame-work on the left side of the bed when driving around off-road or cornering fast on exit off-ramps? Doesn't it move around easily towards the center of the bed?

    Thanks
The platform legs are sitting on a rubber bed mat, which help prevent it from "rolling around"
I am thinking of adding Velcro on the places where it rest on the side of the bed, just to help it a little.
I will "test" it and if needed I will add something to attach it on the bedsides.

I have to say that when I read "cornering fast" it made me smile
because I drive very "conservative" on my little truck

What wood did you use, plan to tackle a platform tomorrow and I’m thinking 3/4” for the base and 1” for the vertical supports and top. Plan to do a 32” large middle drawer and slightly larger than normal side pockets.

I realize you were not asking me...but hate to see anyone spend more money on lumber especially now with prices so high. I’ve had my system for several years and it has held up extremely well. 3/4 ply on top, 3/4 craft grade laminated pine boards on sides, 3/8 ply dust shield on bottom. Drawers are over built but are 3/4 ply sides with 1/2 ply bottoms. Everything is rabbited and screwed and glued. Drawers are pocket drilled and screwed using a Kreg Pocket Screw Jig. I found 32” slides on Amazon. They have longer if you are going full length. Hope that helps.

Don’t really have the skill to do different joints. Planned on pocket holes, screws and glue on everything. I have a tendency to go a little overkill. So I’ll consider just using all 3/4” ply wood.

Understand completely. You really won’t need a 3/4” bottom though as it really isn’t a structural component. More of a dust shield 3/8 or 1/4 inch will save weight and still provides stability to the box. Are you thinking a single full length 32” wide drawer? What are you thinking you will use for drawer slides? I found these 60” slides. They are spendy but specs look good. https://www.cabinetparts.com/p/fult...MI_ML85sir8AIVNR6tBh2iXweIEAQYBiABEgL0t_D_BwE.

If shorter. I have used these and they are really nice.

Well I planned on screwing the 12” vertical boards down into the base. I guess that’s why I was thinking 3/4” base.

As far as the drawer length, it will be around 54” long by 32” wide. I’m building the platform to sit level with an aluminum truck tool box.

Priced out plywood lately? Think about screwing from the backside up into the verticals so you can use 3/8-1/2” ply to save $ and weight. All of my ply is those two sizes.
