I have been leaning towards the Cooper AT3 XLT, but these look great. Couple questions if you don't mind.

How you liking these a couple months later?

What tires have you ran in the past, and how do they compare in your opinion?

Well, I've only had them a little over a week. But so far, so good. It's been raining here and they've been great in the rain. No slipping or spinning in the rain, like my previous tires did (BFG KO2). I haven't noticed any increase in noise, but typically, that becomes a bigger issue, after the tires have worn down a bit.

My previous tires were BFG KO2's in 265/70/17 C-load (46 lbs). Being that these are 285/70/17 E-load's (57.4 lbs), I can feel a slight loss in performance. Partially due to the size change and also because of the weight difference. However, it's not a night and day change and nothing that's really bothering me.

So far, I'm 100% confident I made the right change.

So far, Hwy noise is minimal. That may change as they wear down, but I'm not expecting anything drastic. Typically tire "hum" results from the space between lugs (red dimension below), relative to the depth (green dimension below). The wider the space and the shallower the depth, the louder they'll be. Inversely, the tighter the spacing and the deeper the depth, will quiet them down. Hence, tires get louder as they wear.

Ops, I can read dates lol. Thought it had been longer.

Those are some great looking tires. My buddy has the STT Pros and I like the look of those even better. Not so sure I want to deal with a MT at highway speeds though. Thanks for the answer :D

For sure! @msgs350 just got a set of STT Pro's and you're correct, they edge out the Rugged Trek's on looks, although just barely (IMO). The decision for me came down to the fact that I drive A LOT of miles, compared to him... so you really have to weigh your usage. My top factors were the following:

    • Size - True 33" tire (BFG 285/70/17 is only 32.6")
    • Weight - Only 57.4 lbs (light for a true 33" with an aggressive sidewall and tread)
    • Tread Depth - 18.5/32" (very deep for an AT. KO2 is only 15/32")
    • Looks - Aggressive sidewall and tread pattern
    • Performance - Brand new tire, so that's TBD

Just got my rugged treks put on today. 265-70r17 on stock sport. Wheels are mickey thompson classic 3. 17x9 -12 offset. Lift going on Thursday. Rubbing on mud flaps after less than 1 full turn. As so many people say, pictures do not do the tires justice. Tight center tread, siping amount could be increased. Highway road noise is not much louder than dean back country all terrain. Will update with different weather conditions. Very excited about these tires. Ran kelly safari tsrs (awesome tires!) duratracs and discoverer atps in the past.

Lift installed. Ome 885 coils, bilstein 5100s at 0. AAL in the rear. Best way to lift these trucks IMO for a good price. Tires are impressive in the rain compared to duratracs and kelly safari tsrs. So far very happy with these.

These basically look like a hybrid tire. I assume they slot in between the At3 xlt and St maxx? They have to be significantly lighter than the maxxes I would think...

The ST maxx is a hybrid. These are also a hybrid. There is speculation that these are the replacement for the (long in the tooth) ST Maxx. Not lighter by much if any.

    Edit - 285/70/17
    ST ~ 60lbs
    RT ~ 58lbs

Interesting, thanks man. I thought they might just be a more practical hybrid tire that I could justify to myself (despite doing 95% road driving) haha

Hybrids are the new ATs......ATs are the new all seasons :D

The rugged treks do have like a 55 or 60k warranty so should be great for use on a DD
